Tomorrow there's a local auction (deceased husband, wife selling off all his stuff) that will have a Tec-9 up for sale.

I know absolutely nothing about these guns, other than what I've read about on the 'net for the past half-hour or so.

I'm thinking of going and maybe bidding on this item.  I figure if I can get it cheap (couple hundred?) why not?

If you were going to bid on one of these, what would you look for?

What's the deal with open vs/ closed bolt?  Anyone have a serial number range that would be open bolt?

It's described as "Intratec 9mm. Luger model tec 9 w/ 4-30 round clips & 7 small clips"

Not much to go on and the auctioneers haven't a clue.

Thanks!

ETA, here's a really crappy pic of the auction website.

By all accounts, the Tec-9 is a jamomatic POS.  I'd take the NEF Pardner and the pistol grip 870 of the stuff shown.

Pass on the Tec-9.

Buy the FN-49.

Neat gun. I have an AB10. It shoots like crap, but has never jammed. It key holes like crazy though. I wouldn't pay over $200.

Tec 9 sell for well over 400.00 at most public auctions. The 49 fetches between 350.00 to 400.00. Then again I was at one auction and two NIB Hi Point 9mm pistols sold for over 200.00 each.

hate to admit it but I bought a Tec 9 a few weeks ago, the gun shop just wanted it gone, the bolt wouldnt retract, well that was easy to fix, just took it apart and put it back the right way, still aint shot it, but for $200 with case, 3 mags and fake can.....figure I can part it out if nothing else, but if it goes BANG BANG BANG.....I'll keep it.....not that it will replace my HK SP89 but it might be a fun blaster.

got a Tec 22 that is a total POS, but it was only $50.....

almost sure it will not be an open bolt, just the typical Tec 9

Thanks for all the replies, but I completely missed the auction.

I tagged a turkey this morning, and what with politicking with the in-laws, cleaning the bird, and piddling around I never made it.
