When did the U.S. adpot this pistol for the military?

Had an AF armorer (CATM) say he traced the paper work back on one to Vietnam???? I have traced the papers on a GAU back to Nam and we have some M-16 lowers dated 74'.

I remember we first got M9's in Germany in 1991. We had .38's and a few 1911's before that.

I may be off, but I think it was 1984 or 1985.

ETA: looks like it was 1990

1985 sounds right, but I know the Navy still put .38s on the guard belts of security personnel on in to 1995 or later.

Definitely not Vietnam.

The 92 design dates to the late 70s/early 80s IIRC.

first official adoption of beretta in 1985. took a few years for guns to make it to the field. the army was still using 1911's,especially in reserve and guard units into the mid 90's. the AF was using 38 revolvers (s&W M15'S) in the late 90's.
