Not sure if this is the right place for this or not (nor if it's been done to death in the past), "sorry" if applicable. Anyway, I've heard US Fire-Arms in Hartford took over Colt's old factory and it looks to me like they're building some darn nice SAA's. Anyone know more about them? Quality pretty good? I've come to accept that I'll never be able to afford a true Colt, but if these are Colt in everything but name, and they're not junk, I'd like to pick one up. Opinions? Thanks |

I currently have three. Two rodeos in .38 spcl. w/ivory grips. One SAA, nickle plated, blued screws in .45. They are all works of art. The balance is outstanding. I handled all the clones and Ruger's and settled on the USFA and I'm glad I did. I am very pleased w/mine. I was at the range the other day and a friend shot them and could not believe how accurate. They were very accurate right out of the box when I received them. You will not be disappointed with these. I will tell you it's like owning glock's. It becomes addictivie! They are a quality product. I think they are currently the best quality SAA on the market. They use very modern machinery and pride themselves in the fit and function. |

Do you know if the Rodeo is as nice in fit/function as the Cowboy? It's not as authentic looking with that blueing but I'm having a hard enough time justifying $600, $1200 will take me until Christmas to save up (and then I'll have to spend it on the family). I bought a SAA from them to duplicate an original Colt that was my great grandfather's, right down to the same serial number, except I got mine in .44 special instead of the less common .44-.40. It is a great gun and I am hugely pleased with it. This is the "antiqued" finish that USFA offers that is not too heavy handed but does make the revolver look like a well-cared for antique from day one. Highly recommended for fit and finish, and fun shooting, too.  And just as a comparison, the Colt I wanted to duplicate:  |
what are your intentions for the SAA? if youre looking at buying a USFA you should be abe to afford a real COlt 3rd gen.. If youre willing to look at used, then its less. Ive p/u Colt used SAAs 3rd gens for ~ 1k. If you look at the USFA w/b/cc its around 1k. there are several other options out there that are non USFA/Colt. Ruger make a nice SAA and they have the newer frames that are about the size of the colt. Uberty/Cimarron/ect make some SAAs too. I have an older AWA thats real nice too. Im not sure whos making their parts but its worth a look. |
A Colt would be my first choice (except the Cowboy with its transfer bar), but seems every one I've looked at is 1500+. USFA does have one for $550, not an authentic finish on it but it looks to be about everything I'd want. Nothing against Uberti or Cimarron, I'm sure they're fine firearms but they'd still feel like copies. I've heard a few rumors that USFA is making a better product than Colt, but I don't know if that's true, if it just applies to the more recent runs, or what. |
im not sure what type of relationship you have with your LGS, but i would think he could get a beter deal then 1500. right now my LGS has 3 colts waiting for someone. they were in someones collection. only thing they are in the x-x calibers. the 32-20 is spoken for but the 44-40s are up for grabs and are cons s/ns.. He has some all nickeled 45LCs but IMO they are a tad too much. if you go with the USFA i think you will be happy. yes they are copies, but are really nice copies. im eyeing some of them in 45 and 22LR. just need to save the $$$ and or not buy something else. btw, my AWA is really nice too. |

"My" dealer got out of the business while Clinton was in office and I haven't really developed a relationship with anyone since then (sounds like a Dear Abby letter, doesn't it?) Just checked some prices on Gunbroker and it certainly does appear Colts are available for $1k. So now I want a Colt and a USFA. And a New Vaquero, of course. And I guess I'll have to call up El Paso Saddlery again. I don't know anyone that owns a Colt SAA (I've a Frontier Scout, but I suspect it's not the same). How do they shoot? |
fi youre going to buy more toys, i would try to find a new dealer and develop that relationship. They yanked my FFL during Renos reign but it really didnt matter much since the margin of guns dropped to the point where i could afford to buy them again. any SAA can be picky. My colts are just like anyother. I only shoot my 1 used 45LC SAA since its used. I do have a Colt Cowboy that i shoot, since i bougth it as a shooter. i like Colts or their copies since the reloading process is easier when the chambers line up. But with the reverse pawl on the Rugers, Rugers arent that bad. My first Ruger SAA was the SS Vaquero. Its was worked over by my smith. He ground off the warning on the bbl and polished it back up. its hard to tell it was there and it makes it look that much nicer. The action was lightened and smoothed by him and he adjusted the sights too. The Colt 22 SAAs are nice guns too. just like the big brothers. I stared my collection on COlt 22 SAAs and i like them just as much as the CF versions. but i have more of the 22s. They are just like the CF too. some are more accurate then others and some need to have their sights adjusted. |

heres some of my toys. fromt L/R & T/B. COlt 22 Peacemaker 4.75", Colt 22 New frontier 4.4" Colt SAA, 4.4" w/faux ivory eagle grips Colt Cowboy 5.5" Ruger Vaquero, SS, (old model) 5.5" bbl and duo tone.  Heres the dual rig i made for my colt SAA 22s. its suede lined, both belt and holsters. this is the first rig i made and wasnt sure how reducing the full size 45 pattern/belt would work on the smaller 22s, but i think its about right.  |
