I was at the Ft. Lauderdale gun show and I spotted an Intratec Cat-9 Pistol.  By the time I made the rounds and got back to the dealer,  it was sold.  It looked like a nice small little pocket 9mm, very thin with 8 rd capacity.

There isn’t much info about it on the Internet as far as reviews.  In general I’m told that Intratec had a bad reputation for reliability, I have a Tec-22 and have very few problems! As small as it is, it must really kick, but I’d imagine no more that any other pocket 9mm.

I’m interested in hearing any “Hands On” experiences with this pistol.  NOT hear say, actual owner experiences.

Thanx K2

I worked at a gun shop when the CAT-9 was first introduced. We sold quite a number of them thru our shop. I've shot a few of them at the range, and have some experience with them, even though I didn't actually own one.

First, it's a blowback pistol, not locked breech. This translates into noticeable felt recoil, and its stiff to pull back the slide.
Second, the ones I shot were reliable, but I don't know how well they hold up over time.

It is basically a close copy of an Israeli-designed pistol, which I forget the name of right now.

Personally, I think that fairly powerful rounds such as 9mm need to have a locked-breech in a pistol package. It's hard to make the slide heavy enough to have the mass necessary for a blowback operation on a small pistol.
There were several other blowback 9mm pistols introduced around the same time frame as the CAT-9, and all of them and the CAT-9 fell by the wayside and into obscurity. I think the only one still around is the Hi-Point, and it has a very massive and heavy slide.

I bought one right after I got my ccw, and carried a lot. No sights, just a groove down the top of the slide but plenty accurate enough for its intended purpose. It was not pleasant to shoot, especially with corbon +P that I carried in it but it was 100% reliable. I traded it in on a makarov that I used for a few years. For the right price I would buy another.
