So, I have a G19 and I'm happy with it. But I'm a pretty thin guy and my 19 shows when wearing certain clothes. So I want a subcompact so that I can conceal more easily. Which one do you guys prefer? I love the capacity that comes with the 9mm, but I also love the stopping power of the .45ACP. Which one should I get? |
A subcompact Glock isn't "smaller" as much as it's just shorter than a G19. That can actually mean more discomfort in some cases as well. That is only when speaking of the G26 or G17 as well. The compact .45's Glock makes are "larger" in most of the ways it counts. |
That is what I want, a shorter gun. The 19 can be concealed in most cases fairly easily, but when it gets hot and I wear a fairly tight fitting tshirt you can see the very bottom of the grip poking out. I think that a shorter grip would fix my problem. How about I post pics? |
He's right. Sure the 26 is a little shorter but it's the same width. It's still gonna print under certain clothes. I have the same problem you do. I'm a small guy, 5'10" and 155 lbs and with certain clothes my Glock 26 prints while wearing my IWB holster. It's more than fine to carry when wearing a jacket and even does well under looser button up shirts, but with warm weather comming I'm planning on picking up a Ruger LCP. I was gonna get a Kel-Tec till I saw those comming out. Don't get rid of your Glock. Keep your 19 for carry in your vehicle, home protection, and/or a fun day of shooting. But if you're wanting a bug to carry, something small and easily concealable that won't print, pickup a small .32 or .380 ACP that will dissappear in your pocket. |

For the record, I think anyone that owns a Glock should have all 3 sizes of that chambering... Full Size, Compact and Sub-Compact. Buy a subcompact and play around with it to see if it fits your criteria, if it doesnt, I'm certain you can find another use for it. I used to keep one in the cargo pocket of shorts I had because it fit perfectly without printing. |
Actually, your problem seems to be more related to your clothes than your gun. I've found that CCW requires me to modify my wardrobe just a bit. You just won't be able to wear those tight shirts. Also, if you're having trouble with the 19 the 26 won't be much better. If you want a good summer carry, look for something thin (i.e. not a Glock). Even a Gov't 1911 (nice thin gun) can conceal under a t-shirt if you IWB under a somewhat loose fitting shirt. You don't need to go ghetto loose, just not skin tight. Button-up "camp" shirts are awesome for summer CCW, and are light and airy as well. |
Agree if you want a sub compact you have to go to 38 spc, or 9mm, S&W snubbies, the new Walther PPS, keltec, or other quality subcomplacts the goal is thinner not shorter. if you really wanted to 380's are out there too......... ![]() |

I'm also a small guy - have both the 19 and the 26 and disagree with the posters that say the 26 isn't easier to conceal. The reduced length grip makes it print much less for me. The rear of the slide still shows a little, but it's much less conspicuous than then the slide and the grip that shows with the 19. With that said, I do agree that either pistol is a little big for warm weather carry. I love my G26 but I wish it was thinner in the slide. It would be a perfect pistol IMHO if it was single stack. Ruger just came out with a little pocket pistol called the LCP. I picked one up this weekend locally for $260 and it may be just right for your needs. So far reliability reports are coming back with thumbs up and my trip to the range today indicated the same. |

Don't listen to the naysayers. The G26 is shorter both in terms of slide length and from magwell to top of slide, and conceals easier than a G19, and much easier than a G17. (Mostly due to the reduced 'height', as opposed to length.) Depending on the pants, you can throw it in a Desantis Nemesis (or other pocket holster) and just throw it in your pocket. Or in a good IWB (like an Infidel), you have much less 'grip' to worry about printing. There are some smaller pistols out there, but as reliable? In a usable caliber? Nope. Get a G26 (or G27, if you prefer), and you'll be happy. |
| I was wondering if it is supposed to be easier if you are a bigger guy to conceal. I always see where people are talking about being little making it harder to conceal. But it seams to me that being 250 makes it harder for me to conceal. Seems like me love handles make me print bad. I have never had a nice holster though. I am thinking about buying a mtac for my new glock 23c. |
| Get a G26 DUDE, It uses the same mags and caliber as your 26, is smaller. I've seen guys carry them in a pocket. 45 is expensise compared to 9mm. The small 45s are not easy to shoot. Go with what you know. I bet if you buy a sub compact 1911 you'll be selling it soon after. g26.. |
| While I don't own a glock anymore, I own a XD9 subcompact, every pistol I carried I felt as though the whole world could see it. I was turned on to the MTAC holster go here and I'm in love. Now from my sub compact up to a full size 1911 I barely even notice its there and almost no "printing". Give one a try you probably won't go back. I'll be ordering another one on Monday. Good luck with finding something. |
Read the reply, I said a G-29. It's the exact same size as the sub-compact .40 which is pretty close to the sub compact 9mm. I don't know what cal. the G30 is or how it relates to other subcompacts. |
|
the G30 would be about the same size as the G19 if you are concerned w/ caliber diameter and CCW ability unless you want one of the subcompacts (G27/G26, etc), then, imo they offer a little more concealability IWB wise, and a few more options for ankle, and pocket carry, but not enough in most cases imo that a J-frame or single stacked 9mm subcompact (khar, kt, etc) cant do better... i love all glocks |
