was reading in another thread and it seems that .45 doesn't get much support.  Why?  I personally like the .45, and always wondered what the 9mm had to offer that the .45 dosen't.  I also like the 10mm or .40 but it seems that the .45 has been around for a LONG time, about 100 years right?  If that is correct, kinda hard to argue with something thats been around that long and hasn't been changed.

P.S. I am no guru on the subject, just wondering.

Lots of folks, myself included, get tired of the endless .45 rhetoric.

It's a damned fine round, despite it's many annoying assed worshipers.

The only thing I didn't like about it is I'm going for a subcompact glock the the .45acp was too thick although not to thick just bigger than my liking. Now I'm going for the glock 27....the subcompact .40 as all of you know.

I don't worship any caliber. I carry a .45 but would be just as happy with a 9mm if there was a good 9mm platform that met my ergonomic requirements.

I was refering to the military pistol thread.  Doesn't seem like there is alot of support, alot of "oppinions" on 9mm though.  Or is my sarcasm detector off?

Maybe some people don't think the logistical burden of switching is worth it, that doesn't mean they don't like the 45. I'm in this camp.

IMO, the best caliber for CCW and best for .mil use are not the same thing.

For CCW, I am not so much worried about firepower, chances are I won't fire more than a few rounds. I do however want every last bit of stopping power, the less shots fired and a wound channel that increases the chances that the bad guy dies means less chance of a lawsuit.

So although I would prefer 45 for carrying, if I were sent to Iraq, I would rather have 9mm where I could carry more rounds at less weight, and have better penetration against metal barriers.

You got a lot of 18 yr old soldiers shooting hajis with 9mm and seeing that they aren't dropping right away. They then go screaming that they need a 45. I don't think the difference is as great as they think it will be, they are both at the end of the day, handgun rounds which are not ideal for dropping people.

With the women and the wimps...

I've carried them all and I always go back to .45 every time. G21SF every day. Before that was P220 and before that was USP45.... Damned .45's will be the death of me.

I had a real nice Secret Service turn-in P228. Rough finish but it was a real shooter.

Oh if you are talking about military use then its a NATO caliber and can be easily found just about anywhere and its been around for a long time, longer than .45acp mind you. While .45acp is an American caliber. Also its easier to shoot since it has less recoil, and lets face it most of our guys have never shot a gun before joining the service. So i can see from a military perspective 9mm is a good choice.

I dont know where some of those guys came from in that thread. There was a good bit of 'no luv for .45' going on.

I personally dont hate .45. I own a 1911, Berettas, and ownED Glocks, an HK, and XD.

My problem is this site. One day, I want more .45's, then, I think I just need to stock up on 9mm and hi cap mags, then, I think I MUST own a .357 Sig. Then I'm like, well, this .45 would do this and this for me.......all in one vicious circle...

As for the military, handguns are pretty far down on thier 'get soon' list I believe....

and on the 8th day the Lord commanded john MOSES browning to the mountain where he invested in him the plans for the holy instrument of smitation. And the Lord said.... "it shall be called the 45acp, and it shall be fired from a 1911". and John Moses wept and it was good.

On returning to his flock from the fiery mountain JMB saw his people partaking of all sins. they were holding glocks, and sigs, and he even witnessed a highpoint. with a tear in his eye he bestowed upon the flock the 1911 in 45acp handed down from the lord almighty.

The crowd be came silent as they realised the folly of their ways and repented.

the 9mm was given by a false prophet and is covered in revelations as it is the round prefered by the antichrist.

some may say, "hey the hi- power was 9mm?". while that is technically correct the HP was also built by the belgians and is therefore suspect.

you may prefer a 9mm, andthats ok. God will forgive you for it

Come on people the tool box has more than one type of screwdriver or wrench.

Your tool box should be full of different tools.  45 for demons, 9mm for baddies, 380 for midgets (or little people), 9mm Mak for evil Chechens, 22 subsonic to make puppies quiet or for taking care of the ground hog invasion, 50AE, 44mag, for those situations that call for a big damn hammer.

He is right.  About two years ago on this board if someone said they liked 9mm they would be shunned and laughed at many times over.  There would be a few to recognize it's virtues. But the pendulum has swung.  As of the last year or so, people are much more appreciative of the smaller brethren.  Despite the .45 zealots in this thread.

Either way, I like them both.

It's been pointed out by people smarter than me that the old AWB may have played a part in the negative perception of the 9mm.  When mags were limited to 10 rounds, one of the 9mm's advantages (higher capacity) was removed.  Also, there is the fact that bullet design is much better than it was 10 or 20 years ago, and today there are a number of effective 9mm defense rounds available.
