I want to get one, I've NEVER fired a XD, can anyone tell me if it's a pretty good sidearm?

Does HK have a USP chambered for .45 than? Also how much do USPs cost?

you want a 45? get a 1911.

HK makes several USP variants in 45.

sig, glock, springfield and the rest, most of them make a 45.

go to a rental range, shoot them all
you can't go wrong with a glock, XD, 1911, hk, sig, M&P, etc.

1) Find a range that rents handguns.
2) Rent many handguns.
3) Go from there.

Trust me on this.
Before I got my first handgun, I was sure I wanted a SIG P226.
Then I shot one and did not like it.
I wound up with a Browning Hi Power - much better gun for me.

So the XD is a pretty good weapon? I see there is alot of bias towards the HK, just wondering if that might be unwarrented bias?

I own both. I love both. If my life was on the line I would grab one of my HK's over my XD simply because I have not had it long enough, to shoot it enough to be proven to me.

I have an XD45. In 1000+ rounds it hasn't failed.
easy to dis/re-assemble.
reasonably priced: you can get one for <$500 if you shop around.

To me it seems alot of people talk shit about HK and have no real experience with them.  I have a USPC 40 and the new HK45 and both are top notch.  I have a Glock 22 I really like as well, but if my life were on the line I would grab either of my HK's and not think twice.  You will pay more for the pistol and the mags, but for me when it comes to a self defense weapon price is not an issue.
