Alright guys finally deciding to pick up a 9mm Sig 226 so here comes my question.

The local fun shop has rebuilt pre-owned sig for around $560 and the gun looks mint.

He also has a used West German model for $500 it doesn't look as pretty as the newer sig but i've heard the west german models are great, but i've also heard that the sig rebuilds are the way to go.

Everyone's opinion is greatly appcreciated

Some of the CPO's are German or West-German guns. The key distinction being that the older German guns have stamped carbon steel slides as opposed to the new milled stainless steel slides. The carbon steel slides are lighter and sport some other minor differences, including different extractors (internal vs external).

Might want to double-check that CPO to see if it has a German, carbon-steel slide or not.

In terms of weighing in on the relative deals, it also depends on what extras the West German 226 has - number of mags, box/papers, other grips, etc. I believe the CPOs come with 2 full-capacity mags, factory hard case, and papers - as well as the 1-year warranty.

I'd waited until I found a W German P226 CPO

Yeah, and it will also come with a headache too.

Stick with German made Sigs, or you'd be better off buying a 2x4 with a rusty nail in it.

I have a German 226 and it is no better than a 2X4 with a rusty nail.

Mine has a German made frame with a new slide, but original barrel.  Check out all the CPO's because some might be like this.  Good luck and enjoy your SiG

I will.  Screw the CPO guns.  They're priced $150 higher than they need to be.  Just find a used W. German 226 from a private seller (or CDNN) for about $350-375 and be happy.  Try to get one with all original slide/frame/barrel.  You may need to replace the springs especially if it's a really early model, but that's about $20 from Midway.  You'll save lots of money and have a fine pistol that will last you for many years.  I Norrelled my slide (and everything else) to eliminate the possibility of rust.  It's easy to do and quite inexpensive.  MJD

+1

I agree.  There's plenty of police trade in and other used Sig's selling for $350-$425 at almost every gunshow I attend.

I picked up an all German mfg Police trade in P220 for $375 two weeks ago, and function and accuracy are flawless.  Wear is slight holster wear on a couple of the high edges.

My brother picked up a Police trade in P226 for $400 a few weeks earlier with 4-15 rd mags, and it too has been flawless.

CPO's seem like a "deal" when compared with the cost of a new Sig, but they aren't that great of a bargain compared with the tons of police trade ins out there.

YMMV

PS-CDNN often has some pretty good deals on police trade ins and demo guns...their selection varies month to month.

Yeah, good luck with that.

Don't know where you guys find these killer deals, I've never seen a used Sig for those prices.

Maybe my Deal Fu is weak.

For the O.P., I would get the CPO. As well as the included accesories I believe you get a 1 year warranty. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will point that out.

Despite some of the negativity, a Sig will serve you well. You can buy a CPO gun with confidence that you're getting a quality weapon.
