Many moons ago I used to do a lot of reloading for 45acp. However I moved into Houston and didn't have a decent place to set up my press (a Dillon) A couple of years ago I moved back out into the country (thank goodness!) but I'm just now getting my reloading hat dusted off.

Anyone have any fav loads for the good 'ole 230 grain pumpkin ball? I used Unique a lot back in the day so I bought a can of that, but if someone has a better suggestion....

I'll be shooting this round in an S&W 645, a SIG P220, and two Colts and a Springer. It'll be a "practice" load as well as something to save for a rainy day....

Once I get my reloading "legs" back I'll start on 9mm, 38 Spl and the ever popular .223 Remington.

I started reloading for the 45 when I was 16 (now 63) and still shoot basically the same loads, 230gr FMJ or a 200gr H&G cast SWC over 5.0 gr of Bullseye.  I tried many bullets and powders over that time but always come back to those two.  I know how they shoot and where they are going to hit.  Pull the trigger, bang, jackrabbit falls over . . .what's not to like.  I know there are lots of good powders and bullets available now; however, these work for me.  Besides, my old Star progressive loader wouldn't know how to act if I fed it anything else.  JD

I gotta' echo the Bullseye usage.   I've tried a lot of powders, but BE really offers the most economical and quality performance I have found.   Plus its a fairly clean shooting powder.

I use about 4.5 under a hard cast 201 RCBS SWC in my 645 and it cuts cloverleaves!

6.0 gr Unique. Fed 150 primer, 230 FMJ.

Gets me 895fps...I like it. Straight from their website. Not homegrown.

In the past i've used Universal Clays for 45acp 230 fmj loads.

Now I use titegroup only because I have it for 40.

Titegroup is a little dirty compared to Univ clays, but both are spotless compared to unique.

231 is another big fav for 45 reloading.

3.6gn of plain ole Clays under a 200gn Precision bullet is a pretty sweet shooting load out of all my 1911's.

I use 4.5grns of Titegroup and copper coated lead bullets for my practice loads.  Seems to work nicely at 790fps.  Not too dirty either.

I use the same load as "JACKD1".

230gr FP, 5.0gr Bullseye.

I have been using this load for 20+ years,  and have never seen a bowling pin run from it if I do my part.

Oh, and it works well out of all my .45's (645, 1911, USP, 25-2).
