I've been looking at various big bore single action revolvers. Freedom Arms guns look nice, but out of my price range. The Magnum Research BFR revolvers look nice and come in a wide variety of chamberings. Does anyone have one of these revolvers, and if so, how do you like it? |

I have one chambered for the 475 Linebaugh, its Hell for strong and somewhat large. They have a reputation for exceptional accuracy and mine is no exception. These Revolvers don't seem to have many problems, mine was the exception here as the front sight was installed a little off TDC which I elected to deal with myself. The sights on this Revolver do not belong on a $900 Revolver, the rear sight is a Ruger sight and the front sight and base (one piece) is aluminum, the front sight is fastened to the barrel with one screw. Be aware Magnum Research measures their barrels from front of receiver to edge of muzzle rather than face of forcing cone to edge of muzzle. You may end up with 5/8 more length than you expect. I like the Revolver and it is a good Revolver with adequate sights but it won't put either of my Model 83s on the shelf anytime soon. If you liked the FA 83 I would suggest you look for a like new 83 and if you could get it for around $200 more than the BFR (this would easily be doable in this area) I would go that route. In all honesty the FA Revolvers are a bargain in the long run. |
