Have a couple 1911 style pistols and a Makarov that I enjoy shooting. But I've been looking at all the options as far as polymer framed guns and need some advice.

First, I don't like the feel of a Glock. I'm confident that they're fine weapons but the way they feel in my hand is not pleasing.

So here's a couple deals I've been toying with. First, a USP40, straight, stock, in the HK box, very much like new (I tore it down yesterday, there's no fouling or copper on the feed ramp even). Price: $501 OTD.

The other option is an XD40 4". Standard gun, in near-new shape. I'm not sure if it's got the goodies with it or not. Price: around $300.

Both feel good in hand, with the slight edge going to the USP. I like the fact that it's heavier. Also I really like the idea of a hammer and single action.  All things being equal, I'd get the USP -- but it's condiderably more money. Is it worth the extra?

What says the hivemind?

They're both really good deals.

Something to consider is that the XD magazines will cost around $20-25 each, where the USP mags will be $40-50 each.

I've owned both guns in the past and would probably gravitate more towards the XD40 at this time.  Especially considering the great price, you could always turn around and sell it if you decided it wasn't for you for the same price or a profit.

I don't much care for DA/SA trigger mechanisms and don't like the UPS as a "cocked and locked" gun.

I'm a cocked and locked person, so the USP for me.  The XD is also a great choice.  IMO you will be happy with which ever one you pick.  I always keep alot of mags on hand and it was kind of hard to buy 12 mags for my USP/Mk23.  If you check CDNN they sometime have the USP mags for $35-$45.

I would go with the XD. I love my XD 45 because it is accurate, reliable with any ammo I stuff into it, magazines are fairly cheap and just plain fun to shoot. Glocks are sweet too. I have my brothers G21 and although a very nice pistol I know what you mean by not feeling right in the hand.
