I'm saving up for my first few handgun purchases. I'll finally be able to buy some here in August and I will start putting a few on layaway and paying them off. What do you think of these: 1) Smith & Wesson or Taurus .357 revolver...model not yet decided but for reliability. 2) Walther P22 (for cheap practice) 3) Glock G17/19 (for AK reliability and capacity) 4) Kimber 1911 in .38 Super (because I always wanted one) 5) HK USP-T .45 (for future suppressor) Any suggestions for replacing one of these options with another handgun? Purchasing a revolver as a first handgun is a smart decision. My first one (well, officially anyway) was a S&W Model 66 w/ 3" barrel that I got as soon as I turned 21. I used it with Remington 125 gr Golden Saber medium power loads. Once I had mastered shooting and carrying this weapon, I next purchased a Ruger P89 9mm (value and reliability). From there, things just kind of took off in every sort of direction. One month I'd be buying a Glock, the next a 1911, and the next a Sig. The world is full of good pistols. Just start out with a good revolver, then work yourself into the semi's. You'll develop a certain taste for sidearms fairly early and the more you experience them. Your other questions will eventually start to sort themselves out, probably after your 2nd purchase. Now, sit back and enjoy the disease. I thought rifles and shotguns were addictive, but handguns are a whole other beast. |

A Glock 17 was my first handgun purchase 13 years ago when I turned 21. Although I don't own it anymore, I currently own a Glock 21 and a Glock 19. Over the years I have changed and refuse to sell any of my guns versus when I was younger I traded, sold at a loss, etc. just to have something different. I would like to purchase another G20 someday, but I have a hard time concealing the G21, so I would assume that the G20 would be equally as hard due to them being dang near the same size. Going back on topic, I would vote for a Glock 19 as a first time purchase. A few weeks ago CDNN sports had them for $399 with night sights and I swear that mine was NIB because it was still covered in the factory grease. Of course, I have already changed that "non-fired" status |
Doh, forgot to mention Sig too. I have a Circa 1984 Sig P226 that has performed flawlessly throughout the years. It was 12 years old when I purchased it, and I have literally shot the hell out of it. In fact, I am bringing it to the indoor range in about an hour |
