Found one at a local gun shop for 440.00 plus tax and was curious if that was a good price. Second is the XD .40 a reliable handgun? I would be using it for home protection and when I get my CCW. Any feedback is appreciated... |

If I may first suggest the following forum. Lot of good XD info and a good group. http://www.xdtalk.com/ I have two XD-40 one Tactical and one Service. The Tactical in my competition gun the service is my Carry Weapon. Both gun have been very reliable for me. I have over 3000 rds through the Service and probably close to 10,000 in the Tactical. I am very happy with my XD-40's. The price seem fair if it for a new XD. I see alot of them going for $469 at the local Gander mountain. I pay $400 for my Service and 449 for my Tactical but that was nearly two years ago. hope that helps mcb |

hey brother, yes the xd .40 handguns are extremly reliable handguns, let me giv you some back ground info on my service modl, i also have a sc .40 but the service model is the one i have really put through the ringer. xd service total rds to date 3395 without a single malfunction to date to the fault of th gun. i have had one rd bad that was a reload that caused the bullet to go 1/2 way down the barrel and stop, a squib. it did no damage at all to the gun. i have fired every type of rd that i have been able to buy, jhp's of every make and model, and weight. lead cnl, lead rn, both reloads and remanufactured, fmj;s from all th big name companies. the only ammo i haven't tried is of the steel case type but i would be more than happy to. torture test: i conducted a sand torture test to my service model. here is what i did! 1) locked the slide to the rear 2) opened a sandbag on the range a poured sand in every nook and crany that it would go, trigger, slide rails recoil spring, inside of frame etc. 3) worked the slide 20 times. 4) fired 10rds 5) repeated above for 5 times no malfunctions of any kind. Result the trigger was noticably lighter the slide stop was a little tuff to release but worked fine slide cycled slugish, but agian there was no malfunstions of any kind. to give you an i dea of how much sand was in there, i hot washed it twice, and used 1/2 a can of resol gun scrubber and, there was still sand in there. this was abot a month ago and after much more attention the sand is completly out now. btw i will futher the toture test as i find time, and means to do so. my sc .40 has over 500rds through it not a single malfunction of any kind to date, several types of jhp's and fmj's no lead as of yet but that ill change soon. hope this helps |
