I will be purchasing a new weapon for duty carry by Christmas. Here is the list of weapons available to choose from: Sig Sauer: Any 9X19mm Compact / Sub Compact Glock: 19 / 26 H&K: model P2000SK Kahr: Any 9X19mm Compact / Sub Compact Smith & Wesson: model SW990L Sub Compact only I currently carry a Sig Sauer P228 that is about to be retired. I have experience using a Glock 19 and the Sig for duty carry. I enjoyed shooting and carrying both. I have no experience with the other brands or models. My question is which model(s) would you recommend for duty carry and why? I am leaning towards the P229R Two Tone because I like the reliability of my past Sigs. My concern is all the moving parts inside the Sig. One “like” I have of the Glock is the minimal amount of moving part inside. I am not concerned with price so that is not an issue in my choice. Please provide your expertise and, as always, any input you might offer will be greatly appreciated. Very Respectfully, James S. |

You know Sigs and their controls, so that's hell of a hurdle for the others to win you over. Since you have trained to manipulate the safety you have a safer choice, you already know instinctively where the controls are, and since you are going for compact, the weight of the sig will dampen recoil. |

Thank you for the quick replies. My post was a little confusing, so I will try to clear up some areas. I am an Agent with NCIS. We are only authorized to carry the listed compacts as a primary duty weapon and the sub-compacts as a back-up. All must be chambered in 9X19mm. I would prefer a full size in .40 cal, but my pay grade is not cool enough to make those decisions. Darm441, another thing like about the Glocks are the interchangeability of the magazines between the full, compact and sub-compacts. I like the reliability of the Glocks and I have qualified with both the 19 and the 26. I carried a 17 and 19 as a police officer and I love both of them. I am really stuck between the Glock and the Sig on this choice. I appreciate your input. Jason_R, I have not shot the H&K. Could you let me know what you think about the accuracy, reliability and anything else you might think of. I do like the USP, but unfortunately, that was not one of our options. Pulpsmack, I do have the experience with the manipulation of the controls on the Sig and I can effectively perform any/all immediate action drill with it. So, again, I lean just a little more towards the Sig purchase. Just not completely there yet because of the quality of the other weapons available. |

SGB, I am sitting on the fence between the Glocks and the Sigs. I thought about buying both,k but I would have to make a decision eventually when I deploy. Only one can go with me, so I should probably narrow it down at the begining. I really like the simplicity of the internal parts of the Glocks, but I really like my Sig's too. I'll make a decision soon. Thanks again for everyones input. Stay safe, James S. |
I have a P2000SK in .40, and am going to buy one in 9mm. They are more accurate than the Glock counterparts, but also more expensive. They are GREAT weapons, go to a range and try one. I have the LEM version, but I want the 9mm w/ decoker. They'd be great as a BUG. If the department is buying them, then go for the HK. If you're looking for an affordable piece, go with the Glock 26/27. |

Thanks for everyone's input into this issue. Now to throw another monkey wrench into the equation... Full size Sig's are authorized but not full size Glocks. I have made the decision to go with the Sig P226R two tone. Thanks again for everyone’s help. Ya'll stay safe, James S. |

Sticking with the Sig does sound like the better choice even though both are good pistols. Sig aren't overly complicated to worry too much about less moving parts in the Glock. As for the fullsize to a compact Sig choice that should matter more on your most form of carry whether concealed or open carry. A P226R is a bit harder to conceal but the size makes it a better shooter for most depending on how it fits their hands. You'd be good either way, it's just which one fits more. |
