Here's top some platers who offer it.
Note that black chrome is NOT as durable as hard chrome, it's only slightly better than ordinary bright nickel:

I know APW used to offer it, but only in a matte finish.  Anything other than matte would be for strictly decorative purposes.

Screw black chrome, go with EGW's E-Treat or a tungsten DLC coating.

Accurate plating is run by some nice folks. They do alot of work for USFA, for one. I haven't seen their Black Chrome finish, though.

Black chrome is expensive, not durable, and is more for a show gun. If U expect it to be as durable as hard chrome, U will be disappointed...

I had a pistol done in NP3 by Robar which is a chrome-like finish which I am very happy about.  They also do this black finish which looks good, although I have never seen an example.  I'd give them a call - they are very friendly on the phone and could answer your questions about this and other finishes, I'm sure:

darn it...as nice as NP3 is I cannot trust a gun to the back room hacks at Robar....I wouldn't even send them a frame for fear of them fucking it up...and that bums me out because they have a couple of nice finishes....but it just doesn't help you when you get a gun back with idiot marks, rear sites installed backwards and such....

Close.  Good friend of mine had a 1911 fucked up by them. Among other things, they installed the rear sight backwards.  He SPECIFICALLY told them NOT to assemble his gun, as he does all assembly by himself.  They followed NONE of his instructions.

There's a few folks here who have been through worse than that.

There's gotta be more to the story. Did he send it back and have them fix it or did they tell him to eat it??????

Oh, he was AT the shop.  He spoke to Mr. Barkman personally and Mr Barkman had everything fix post haste. He was VERY polite about it and very concerned that they make it right.  Kudos for customer service. However, my point is that each gun should be inspected for quality BEFORE it is handed over.  Since the 1911 is one of the most prolific guns to have customized how the hell can you screw it up in the first place?  It's HIGLY unlikely that was the first 1911 to come through that shop's doors.

The important thing is he made it right. Some people might deny responsibility for something like that.

I'm sure every refinishing company has made mistakes before. No reason to knock them that hard.

From my own personal experience I sent my Romanian SAR-1 to Global Trades, Inc. Spoke with Andre personally after I received my complete AKM back after they refinished it...problem was they forgot to include my receiver cover/rear sight leaf and a couple screws that hold the rear sling bracket in place.

He made it right and sent me out some new parts...yes, they werent the same serial number but he did good by sending those parts and knocking 25% off the cost they charged to refinish the rifle.

Would I use them again? Even though they screwed up....Sure. They do good work.
