I have an opportunity to get some good deals on Berreta pistols. I want to get the same one used by the military in standard 9mm. Which civilian model is the M9? What kind of prices would be considered good? Where can I get quality high capacity magazines? What is the difference between the 92FS and the Berreta Brigadier? Also, do they chrome line the barrel on the military version? Any other tips and advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys. |

The Beretta 92FS is for all intents and purposes the same as the M9. The civilian model has two white dots on the rear sight and the M9 has one, below the notch. I have compared them side by side and that was the only difference we could find. The civilian finish might be tad bit smoother. I am intend to try some of the Asian military mags for my 92. I have heard good things about them. You can find them and factory mags on Ebay and Gunbroker. So far I love my Beretta. Some people complain about the wide grip, I like it. It's accurate, and utterly reliable. |

gvidon212, Beretta 92FS is the model you seek and in the blued version it should set you back about $550 retail. Aftermarket hi-caps can be found at any gunshow in the ads of many gun magazines. Hi-cap factory mags are harder to find, but are available. I paid $45 each for used Beretta 9mm hi caps. They feed better than my aftermarket mags. The difference between the 92FS and the Brigadier is barrel length. The 92 is 4.9" and the Brigadier is 4.3" as I recall. I do know the INS uses Brigadier in 40 S&W as their carry weapon. My only advice is to spend at least 60% of your range time practicing transitioning from double-action to single-action. Invest the time and you'll be amazed at how accurate a Beretta can be. Plus they are reliable as all get out and have those sexy Italian lines. Just don't be surprised when the barrel blueing rubs off within a 1,000 rounds. |
| Actually, the difference between the 92FS and 92FS Brigadier is the slide, not the barrel. The Brig slide is thicker, and is beefed up around the internal notches for the locking block. It also has a dovetailed front sight, while the front sight on the regular 92 is part of the slide. Barrels are the same, unless you're talking about the Elite series. |

I've got a 92 stainless Brigadier. Shot 500 rounds through it (and put another 1000 or so in the past coule months) in the past two days. There were no gun related malfunctions (we had a few because of limp wristing - purposely). Anyways, no one (including me) who has shot this can hit jack shit with it. I do believe the sights are aligned improperly. You have to grab just a very little bit of the front site, and a very little of the left hand corner of it, alined with the right side of the rear site. That's the best I can explain it, but, I can hit things when I do that. When I aim normally the gun is way off. It shoots to the right pretty bad. Should I send it back to the factory? |

First, be certain that the people who have tried it can actually shoot good enough to determine it is the gun and not the user, though if it shoots to the right for several people, it more than likely is. (It's the low / left syndrone that is suspicious) Also, black out the sights with magic marker, etc. to be certain of a more precise sight alignment. Yes, if it consistently shoots to the right, move the rear sight to the left (the direction you want the bullet to go). You don't need to send it back for this, but given what I know of your history, you might let someone else do it for you. |
