I'm sure all of you have seen many choppers make some daring moves, but this one is spectacular! The shot was taken by a trooper in Afghanistan. The Pilot is Larry Murphy, PA National Guard. Larry is a Keystone Helicopter Corp. EMS Pilot called to active duty. This is a "unique" landing operation. This particular military operation was to round up suspects. There are some super Reservists and National Guard folks out there in addition to volunteer active duty troops. http://pic1.picturetrail.com/VOL1134/3985027/11451877/193390379.jpg Sorry. I posted this in the wrong section, should be under the general section. Mod, could you please move it for me. |

That method of loading or unloading has been used since the Vietnam war and although not common, I wouldn't exactly say it is a drastic feat. When I was in the Marine Corps, I was a helicopter mechanic, and a few times a helicopter would come in minus its nose landing gear. It would have to perform a similar, nose only, hover while we positioned mattresses, or specially designed airbags under it, so it could shut down without having to land on the deck. |
