My stepfather has a Chinese made semi auto pistol. He took it in Nam straight out of a crate. It still has cosmoline in the magazine. It has never been fired. We cannot figure out the caliber. He says he things hearing it is something "7.62" or something. I looked at it and there are no markings except a serial number and some chinese markings on the barrel.

Anyone have any ideas of this caliber? Maker of it even? Value? Trying to find proper ammunition to see if we can get it up and running.

thanks.

scoke.

Could be a Chinese Type-54 Tokarev copy. It fired the 7.62x25 out of an 8-round magazine.

Can you post a pic of it?

Is this it?

Very similar. Front end, trigger, trigger guard and magazine are identical to that. I don't have it in front of me but the rear, i dont think is so rounded. A more '1911' look to it i think.

So 7.62 x 25mm is a pistol cartridge? i was looking at ammoman. big rounds..

thanks for the start.

As previously stated, you may have a Chinese copy of a Soviet Tula-Tokarev. The 7.62 Soviet Rakov has Browning Hi-Power-like profile but with a similar trigger as well.
