Hey, everyone, originally I had asked about the P30 on the H&K Handgun forum and I didn't turn up a whole lot of responses, but I did find out about the H&K .45 -- neat.  Anyhow, I'm looking for a decent .40S&W carry-weapon (open and/or concealed) and was curious to find out if anyone knows if H&K would manufacture the P30 in that caliber.

Any other suggestions for a good carry weapon in .40?

In general, what are people thinking of the P30 overall as compared to USP or the P2000?

Additionally, does anyone have detailed info or opinions on any of the following new handguns:
- H&K P30
- H&K .45
- Beretta 90two

There's tons more I want to ask, but I'll try not to over-complicate the thread.
Thanks!

The HK P30 is very much like the P2000.

The P30 is blend of the USP 45 and a P2000. HK has not released the P30 or P3000 to the public; they are trying VERY hard for a US handgun contract. If that goes they might release it you the public....and if it does not go, my hope is HK still sells it to the public. They have a lot of R&D with Larry Vickers and I would hate to see that gun just sit in the HK Grey Room collecting dust.

As for your question the only gun that comes close to the P30 now in .40 is the P2000 Variant 3 that is DA/SA with a de-cocker.

HK seems to be following the Smith & Wesson "Handgun of the Week" format with their compact line... in other words, going five different directions at once.  It's too much to bother keeping track of.

Unless you must have a safety lever for some reason, check out a Sig P229, either traditional SA/DA, or the newer DAK trigger, which is similar to HK's LEM.  Sig mags a cheaper, and you won't find a more reliable and accurate semicompact .40 than a P229.

Thanks for the recommendation, but hopefully I won't have to buy a Sig.  I'm applying to join the Secret Service Uniformed Division and I'm thinking positive about the whole thing, so I am going to anticipate that I won't need to buy my own Sig since I'll have my service issue one from Uncle Sam.  Any recommendations for something in the meantime?

P.S. - My sister lives in KC, MO and I remember that a long time ago she voted for a pro-CCW law. Out of curiosity, did that pass or what?

Thanks again.
