I have a 29-2 with a 6 inch barrel, pinned and recessed, nickle plated. I hate it. The recoil is stout and it makes me flinch with all my other pistols. I want to sell it, or perhaps trade it. The trouble is I have 500 starline nickle brass cases, about 250 240 grain jackedt hollow point bullets, about 1/2 half pound of 2400 powder and lee carbide dies for it. Should I get a heavier pistol, ie dan wesson, or ruger? Or should I sell the sucker outright? Thanks for your help. John

Find some hogues or similar grips. dont get the ones with the back strap exposed.

also like Rabon said.  load it down.

Is there a reason why you want hot or loads on the upper end.

try some SWC or copper wash/plated bullets. if you keep the FPS to around 1k, you will like it.  I shoot my 629 with 240 gr SWC @1000 fps and i can shoot them all day.

That's what I was going to say.  .44 Special, for those who shoot it, is a beloved round.  Try loading some of your brass to .44 Special specs and see what you think.

Yup-per, back'em down.  Not only will your brass last longer, you'll get some really nice trigger time on one of the nicest shooting .44's out there. Very pleasant and the holes are easier to see.

I will trade you a glock for it.

Why not load what you want to shoot?  Thats is why I reload.

I'm thinking the same thing. When buying my 629, my eyes were bigger than my ability.

I'm quickly learning that I'm more of a .44 Special guy, though I don't like to admit it.

Hell, even Dirty Harry used a downloaded .44...  He actually mentions it in one part of the movie.  "I shoot light loads" or something to that effect.  So don't feel bad .

Love shooting my 29.

4 inch barrel with those snappy 180grn UMC loads is a fun one.   That or a couple 180s stoked by BlueDot trying to take advantage of the short barrel.

People look at me kinda strange when I'm poppin away at the 200 yard gong at the rifle range with a handgun.   However I tend to hit it about 1 out of 5.

After about 100 rounds my shooting hand is unexplicably shaking later that night.   It's as if it was getting a work out earlier that day, go figure.

Thanks for the advice. I will load a lot lighter and see what happens. I really don't need a glock. I have several sigs and like them a lot.

Sounds like Dirty Harry should have had something in .45 colt!

Using full house factory loads can definitely hurt in the 29 ( or MANY a .44 Mag ) but judicious handloading can turn that beast into a beauty.

QUESTION:  Do you reload?  If so, let me know, and I'll give a couple of nice load tips for the 29 using 240 grain rounds.
