i just bought a Davis .380 at a gun clearance, used, for $50. it shot 50 rounds of umc flawlessly and surprised me with its smooth, though stiff trigger.
Is this gun good(i have already modified the sights a little to get a better picture with less glare)
Can i shoot hotter rounds and +P safely through this gun?

Is there a cheap, but reliable gun of similar size and caliber that is double stack for higher capacity?

Ive seen THREE Davis .380's with cracked frames.  +P will be pushing the envelope...

that davis will not last long i assure you  if you use +p ammo.

my advice is to put about 200 dollars or so in a makarov in either 9x18 or 380.

Also if you look around occasionaly  you see a hi cap makarov (12 round)for about 300 and change.

I went through 6 mags in about a year for mine, I was shooting every couple of months and if I left a mag loaded, the spring would crap out and would not feed properly.  I usually found mags for about 5 bucks at the shows.  Now it sits. Personally the novelty of such a small gun wore off after losing flesh to the slide a few times.

In a word NO!

Davis, Jennings, Lorcin, Bryco etal are the classic Saturday Night Specials. They are not something you should count on and may well be down right dangerous.

For just a little bit more you can get handguns that are reliable and safe and I would strongly suggest putting the Davis aside for the next gun buyback program and getting something else. I would NOT suggest selling it to some other person either. Just get it out of circulation.

FWIW, they don't meet the true definition of Saturday Night Special as they do come from a real manufacturer rather than someone's machine shop. They are not worth much, however. A gun buyback special for sure. You probably got what you paid for. Most quality guns go for way more than $50.
