I hear people talking about crayon on their guns. I'm pretty sure it refers to the colored in lettering on slides, and what not. Caan someone please tell me what this really is, and how it's done. I wouldn't mind having the Safe, and Fire colored in Red, and white on my AR. But I do think that much more than that is a little overboard.

You can use a paint pen.  Simply run it over the area that has what you want to fill in, and then immediately wipe the surface with a towel to remove the excess that is not inside the lettering you wanted to fill in.  Nail polish would also likely work as well.

China Markers - more durable  than crayons , easier to use than paint.

Forgive me for asking, but why would anyone need to have their AR safety marked in high visibility which is which?????

Well no other reason than I think it looks a kind of neat. I'v always liked the way H&K does with their MP5's. unless thats all custom done. I just think it looks cool. no tactical or practical reason for it.
