If they aren't all 'shot out,' it sounds like a good deal to me

It is a fair price for a police trade in, but www.kyimports.com has them for the same or cheaper. The nights sights may not have much life left, so I wouldn't buy them for that. KY has standard sights models for around $379 with a 15 rd. hicap mag. If you are wanting one for a shooter and don't need it to look like new it is worth it. IF you would end up refinishing it, you may as well look for a used one elsewhere, since the cost of refinishing could make up the difference anyway.

I bought a P220 from KY for about $419 that was a police trade in and it had holster wear, but appears to not have been fired much, judging from the light wear on the top of the barrel that is typical of Sigs. I replaced the firing pin spring and recoil spring with Wolff springs and it is reliable and accurate. HTH!

I live near AIM so I stopped by to look at the sigs.  I decided to give them a pass because the condition of the ones on hand were very poor.

I had a police trade-in, and it worked fine.  Finish was not much to brag about, but I didn't care, as I just Gun Koted it.  I would say regardless of who you order it from, expect the gun to arrive in one condition worse than it's advertised.  KY imports has had some bad press about selling things in worse shape than they advertise, but it's really not true.  What you need to do is acutally read what "good" "very good" and "excellent" really are according to NRA condition.  Most people think one of the levels of condition are better than they really are defined as.  Then they get all mad because the gun they ordered as "excellent" came in with a bunch of holster wear.  Look in the front of a Shotgun News for a detailed definition of the condition levels.  Just know what you're really buying.  All of the police trade-ins I've seen have been worth the money, but pretty much on target for condtion according to NRA.  In other words most "excellent" were far worse than what most people think as "excellent", but they were accurately described according to the true definition.

Also avoid the K-kote Sig Police trade-ins.  They always look bad because of the way K-kote wears.

BC1303 - I was thinking about making a trip out to AIM to look at the p226's - what didn't you like about them?

And do you know if they were milled or stamped slides?

I "THINK" All the P226's have stamped slides.  Although the newer .40 cal. P226 might not be.

Go for it. Most PD trade-ins have been carried lots and shot little. That's a good price and you should jump on it.

I have a p226 in 9mm that I bought new last year - it has a milled slide.

But I want another one...

Even though they work well, I've looked at the older p226s with the stamped slide, and they felt "cheaper."

I wouldn't mind a police trade-in if it had a milled slide.
