I'm looking for something tiny to carry when my other guns aren't practical. Definitely wouldn't be a primary carry gun, picturing it being used in a role where it's in the pocket of a pair of khakis. .22LR vs .22 mag? |
|
Quoted: Get a P-32 instead. Super thin, 6 oz, $250 and a much more practical choice if you actually need to use it. Concur for a variety of practical reasons. This has been my don't want to carry a gun pistol for the last 15 years or so. Also my wife's EDC. I have actually drawn it to stop a robbery. |

I think they are potentially dangerous depending on how they are carried. However, some winter coats have a hoodie rolled up into the collar. The right thickness of foam can be cut out to replace that shitty hoodie thing after you cut it out. The little gun can fit into a cutout of that foam. |

They are SA only with long hammer pull , its not the type of firearm to carry with hammer back anyways, IMO. they have pocket holsters the lil NAA jus slides into, just like every other pocket gun, |

Quoted: Exactly where are all these Kel Tec P-32's being found? I've been looking for one for well over 2 years. Those found are priced about double retail! I bout one on gunbroker a year or so ago for $200 and there were plenty available. Should have got two just because. Looks like $350 is the new normal, for now. https://www.gunbroker.com/item/905656267 |

Quoted: It's not a practical carry gun by any stretch other than being small. I think the P32 is the minimum for a carry gun. As much of a revolver fan as I am I have to agree. For shorts pocket 100+ degree days, I am very happy with my ruger LCP II Ruger just introduced the max version, I checked one out today. Same size but a double stack 10 shot magazine. Better sights too. For deep cover one of these true pocket size 380’s is the ticket. |

I keep seeing people say this, but the LCP Max is quite a bit thicker than the LCP II. It may not seem like much but for a pocket gun it makes a difference. The sights are much better though. |

I have the mag version. The folding grip is nice because you can just clip it in your pocket snd it looks like a knife. Not super fast snd like others are saying it’s probably easier to conceal and actually use a p32 or LCP. I carry my LCP much more. With small grips it fits in a sunglasses case or watch pocket though. Pretty cool |

Quoted: I already said it. They 22 mag is the only way this gun makes sense. 22 LR is just a novelty. I suppose my questioning is derived from the ballistics tables provided by NAA. In the comparison between .22LR and Mag it seems like there's a fair amount of overlap. Does that small increase in velocity make the (albeit small) difference in size worth it? .22LR Ballistics vs .22 Mag Ballistics |

I have a NAA .22 that my dad gave my mom to carry in the late 80's I believe. It's a neat little gun but I don't carry it because there are many better options in the safe. I would probably carry it if it were the mag though. I have an LCP II that I like and carry pocket or appendix, and I run with it when I'm not grabbing my g42. I like the holster for the 42 better even though both appendix holsters were made by the same maker. I've never tried the p32 but I hear good things about it. While $350 isn't a bad price that's what I paid for my g42 and LCP II. For $200 to $250 I'd get the p32 otherwise I'd go for one of the two .380's. To recap. .22 mag or p32 for the right price or g42/LCP II. Good luck. |

Does that small increase in velocity make the (albeit small) difference in size worth it? .22LR Ballistics vs .22 Mag Ballistics I believe the 22 mag has much better penetration. But if you are interested in a 22 LR model, I might know where one might be for sale. |

Quoted: It's not a practical carry gun by any stretch other than being small. I think the P32 is the minimum for a carry gun. The great thing about the NAA, once the buyer realizes how impractical it is, they can usually sell it for close to the purchase price to someone who doesn’t know its limitations. |

That’s how I got mine and I’m still happy I got it. Op get the 22mag or dual cyl. You’re not likely to shoot it much so the fact that 22mag ammo costs more doesn’t matter. |
|
OP, its not really obvious unless you see them in person, but there’s a substantial size difference between the 22LR-framed guns vs the 22 mag. I will say Timkel posted earlier in the thread one of the better pictures I’ve seen accurately showing the size difference. Your main purpose is to get something as small as possible, which would be the 22LR. To me the 22LR is useful whereas the 22mag is more of the novelty. If you start chasing another objective (such as better ballistics) then you might as well bump up to something like a LCP. |

These guns only have a safety notch cut between the cylinders. It doesn’t take much rearward hammer movement for it to come out of that notch. Then it’s resting on a live round with no transfer bar or anything. I had several instance where at the end of the day mine would be out of the notch and on a live round. This was using one of the popular pocket holsters sold for these guns. I ended up making a kydex “shell” for mine to click into which blocks not only the trigger but also locks the hammer down so it can’t move out of the safety notch. |

Agreed- it's very much a niche gun and that niche has gotten even smaller since the arrival of guns like the KT and Ruger LCP. Use so-called "hypervelocity" ammo in it, something like Stingers or Velocitors. Just be very aware of what they are and are not as far as defensive weapons. With some practice they're surprisingly accurate and not as slow as you might originally think but the difference when shooting the same ammo out of say a 4" barrel is noticeable. Attached File Attached File https://www.handgunhero.com/compare/kel-tec-p-3at-vs-north-american-arms-22lr They don't have a .22WMR in their database for comparison purposes. |
|
Quoted: Wrong, the smallest would be the .22 Short version. Well, yeah, of course it is smaller. You can see that in the picture posted earlier in the thread. But OP specifically asked about 22lr versus 22 mag. Besides, I think any reasonable person understands the 22 Short NAAs are novelty items. |

Quoted: I always wanted to get one of the .22 lr types to shoot with Colibri ammo. The belt buckle/holster/carrier is a neat idea but not very practical. The whole SA revolver concept isn't very practical as a BUG against anything but snakes, but would make an amusing OC gun - most folks wouldn't realize it was an actual gun. |

Leave it to Virginia, part of the statute prohibiting carrying concealed weapons: For the purpose of this section, a weapon shall be deemed to be hidden from common observation when it is observable but is of such deceptive appearance as to disguise the weapon's true nature. Va. Code § 18.2-308(A) |

Va. Code § 18.2-308(A) Well, the true nature of the .22 LR in a belt buckle holster is - a belt buckle. That's what it's best @. ![]() ETA: I've been interested in those OC "cell-phone" pistols, but then again, I have enough problems answering my Kel-Tec P32 as it is... |
|
Quoted: I can understand that. In my specific instance the 22lr was just small enough to carry in a watch pocket. The 22 mag had to go into a main pocket, and at that point I might as well carry small automatic. I get that, and to be honest didn't realize that the 22 mag model was that much bigger, but looking at comparison photos above I see that it is. The 22 LR isn't a terrible back up (or back up back up |

Quoted: you need the 2 inch barrel to make the 22 win mag be worth the upgrade over 22 LR... and even then its debatable but at least you are getting more than 150-200 fps better. http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/22.html http://www.ballisticsbytheinch.com/22mag.html With North American's data posted above, and BBTI's data, you can get a decent idea of the tradeoffs of the different bbl lengths & loads. |

of course it is smaller. You can see that in the picture posted earlier in the thread.
