I found 2 used series 70 commanders in stainless. One for 550 and the other 575. They both have some wear the one for 575 is nicer. I think I can get it for less. Do these sound high? I appreciate your help.
This isn't it, but it looks like this.

Ok, first....... no such thing as a Series 70 Commander.

Colt went from the Commander to the Series 80 Commander. No Series 70.

Secondly Colt started making the Commander in Stainless with the Series 80.

Most likely what you are looking at are Combat Commanders in Coltgaurd Finish. An electroless Nickel plating.

I'd say that the prices are average.

One issue with the Coltguard is that if you want to refinish the gun, you must strip the finish first...something not many places are willing or able to do. (I don't think you can just bead blast it off) I seem to recall it is some sort of 'electroless" nickle rather than hard chrome, and do not know everything involved with getting it off of the gun, (with standard nickle, you simply reverse the electrolosys procedure) but I would definitely pick a blued gun. FWIW, the real "Commander" has always had a lightweight frame, this is the "Combat Commander" with steel frame.

Those Commanders were made during the Series 70 run of Govt Model pistols, although they did not share ithe collet bushings those guns had. I think those prices are good. Most 70s commanders Ive seen have gone 650-750. They didnt make these in stainless, I believe they clled it satin nickel. I had one, which I bought new in 1977, the finish seemed pretty durable.

I have one.  Had it for about 15 years.  Not a bad price(s).

I had some work done on it and the gunsmith took it upon himself to "touch" the gun up a bit.

I believe he used a motorized brush and the damned thing looks so much better!

The yellow looking finish is now a brushed nickle finish.  MUCH BETTER!

Don't care about resale or collector value myself, she will not be sold!

One thing to consider is these guns have NO MIM parts.  Can cost you some $$ if you bought a newer one with MIM parts and have to have them switched out.

Get a better price and go for it.
