I was practicing a little with my pistol and a handheld flashlight last night and it brought up a question for me.  If you have a weaponlight mounted under the frame of your gun, does it help any with seeing the sights?  There was a pretty small "sweet spot" that illuminated the sights and helped with seeing what was in front of me, and it occurred to me that a light mounted on rails underneath would not help at all with this.

I can see my sights 100% of the time using my weapon light at any range I could ID the target with the light.  The target is bright enought the front sights are clearly shilouetted.  This applies to both pistols and rifles.

I use an XD with a mounted light, and am able to practice low light at my local range. I've found that the light does indeed silouette the sights pretty well. I recently switched to meprolight sights though, and my low light shooting improved dramatically, even with the light.
