Ok, I have the LW Champion, bull barrel with the dual spring recoil assembly. What options are available to make take down and assembly easier in regards to the recoil assembly?

I need the reverse plug with the bull barrel, is there a one piece, one spring option? This would make the process alot easier. I don't care for the little half moon clip that you have to snap on the guide. Although a pain on assembly, you can do without that.

I see the slide is milled for a bushing, down the road, I could always have a normal barrel and recoil assembly?-if I wanted.

I appreciate the input!

Well, I called SA and Ed Brown. I can go with  a commander guide rod and spring if I wanted and use the reverse plug. Ed Brown recommended a full length one piece(trimmed govt. one)

I did tweak the stock assembly, making it a snap to assemble/disassemble without the little half moon clip. I chamferred the edges on the end of the guide rod(the end closest to the muzzle) This allowed me to leave the reverse plug in place or if taking it out-put it in first, then install the assembly  without it being compressed much or-binding.

The chamfer helped otherwise it bound on the inner edges of the reverse plug and you would have to put the guide rod in upside down, then twist it right side up once in.

Springfield did say that only the large spring would need replacing on the stock assembly. That spring is a special sized one for this assembly.

Has anyone ever had on of these assemblies break on them?

They do have a reputation of coming apart, BTW it is MUCH easier to disassemble and reassemble the champion by making sure it is unloaded, removing the mag, pulling the slide back and holding it where the slide lock cut is and removing the slide lock. Assembly is reversed, I usually hold my hand on the top of the slide, use my index finger to hold the front of the trigger guard and hold it in place that way. Very easy and no tools or doohickeys needed.

That's how I ended up doing it, much easier and the chamfer job made it easier yet. I think I will eventually get the Ed Brown full length an dhave it trimmed to Commander specs and use a single spring set up.

This way, I won't have any breakage.
