| I carry a Star BM 9mm and was wondering if anyone else has one . I have put about 600 rds. through mine without a single problem , otherwise I wouldn't trust it as a carry piece. Check in if you have one. By the way, I only paid $189 out the door. maxx |

Paid about the same. Mine doesn't know its not supposed to feed HP's and eats Speer Gold Dot 115 HP all day long. Just took it to the range today and is also my CCW. Just don't dry fire it, or plan on buying a new firing pin, which BTW parts are getting harder to find since they are no longer made. |

Had one a few years back . .. box, papers, two mags -- would rate it at 95%. 100% reliable with ball and the old style Remington HPs. Stupid me -- sold it for "something else". Been checking the local toy shows for another -- if I can find one in really nice condition I'll buy it in a heart beat . . . . |

I bought a BM 16 months ago at a gun show. I wanted one because a buddy of mine had one back in the mid 70's and I liked it. So I paid $199 for one used. I then paid to have it refinished. It looks brand new but has an extractor problem. So, I need to have that fixed but no one sells extractors for a BM's anymore. Before you all say go to Numrich,(which is the only place that sells them), the one they sent me is for a Star Model B, not BM. It does not fit. A reputable gunsmith I know said the only thing to do is mill one out for me. Expensive , I'm sure. This has been a disappointing gun buying experience for me. I like the BM, but to pay more to have a part manf. that costs more than the gun is to say the least.....Disappointing. It is either that or put it in the back of the safe and forget it!

I wanted a Star BM as an inexpensive CCW. Unfortunately, I didn't feel comfortable with the safety on it, and I couldn't carry it with the hammer down with one in the chamber. It makes a great plinker, but I don't know about using one for CCW. The fragile firing pin was another reason for caution. It's too bad that Star didn't stay around long enough to remedy some of these issues. With a few fixes, it would be an outstanding pistol. |
| I got mine about a year ago for $175 and its been a great gun for the money. Never had any problems at all! I would not think twice about carrying it for a CCW if it was all I had but like the other guy the safty makes me a little nervous with one in the chamber and the hammer back. I think there are better choices for CCW but its a great gun. I use it all the time for my beater gun when I go somewhere I might end up banging it around. Mine was probably 75% and I refinished it myself with Norrels Moly Resin and it looks like a new one. Every time I hear some dumba$$ talking about getting a hi point or a Llama for home protection and plinking I try to talk them into the STAR BM instead. |
