Hey all,
I'm looking to consolidate calibers and get 380 out of my life. I don't have anything really against it, but I want fewer calibers and a little more punch. I currently have my LCP as my all the time carry, walking the dog, running into the store, etc. I don't like pocket carry, so I have a clip holster that I wear about 3 o clock. I want to sell it and switch over to a 9mm shield. I shoot M&Ps and 1911s exclusively in full size, so I like the grip angle. Glock is out for me, but has anyone gone from a tiny carry gun to something a bit more significant? I have a compact 1911 I carry when I head out of town, but is the shield a good option for a clip in the waist band and go kind of gun? In addition to the caliber change, I'm hopeful to get some real sights and a real trigger. I'm not confident I can shoot the LCP with any real accuracy at distance, and now I have a wife and baby out in the world with me |
| I think the Shield is an excellent option for what you describe. I think it offers a very thin profile, similar to 380's, yet has sufficient grip length to allow a full hand grip. I carry mine in a Blade-Tech ambi-klipt holster. You'll hardly even know it's there. |
| I was in the same boat and had a 229 that was too big for carry in summer months and kept going back to the lcp. Ended up doing a 938 and I love it. Bit bigger with sights and a good trigger plus it's in 9mm. 1911 style so that was nice. That said I got a new lcp recently and the refinements make it really nice. The only downside I had with moving from the lcp was loosing the belt clip I got for it. That was very comfortable, easy to draw and if noticed looked like a pocket knife. Overall I like the 9mm and do like the 938 but I go back to the llcp gen at times in summer due to comfort and tighter fitting clothing. |
| I have both. I still have the lcp with me more often because ease of carry. In FL its shorts and tee 99% of the time. Sure the shield isn't big but the lcp is better for pocket carry. So for me because of my situation im keeping my lcp. They dont get much on the used sales market anyways, why not keep it as a extra at this point. |

I would keep the LCP just for those times when it's impossible to carry anything bigger. You won't get much out of it anyway. And it's not like you have to keep a huge stockpile of 380 ammo. The LCP is a great tool to have on hand though.
That said, get the shield if a single stack 9mm is your thing. I don't think it can be beat in that category and price. I recommend the version with no safety. While the shield is very compact, it is still much bigger than the LCP so it would be nice to have both. |
| I wanted to like the Shield but in the end it wasn't to be for me. Both the Glock 43 and Ruger LC9pro fit much better for me with the 43 winning out in the end as it fit and functioned the best for me. I have a lcp custom and as others said it serves its own purpose pretty well so it will likely be around for some time to come. |

Started with a shield then sold it and got an lcp. Super light and easy to carry but I wanted more stopping power so it got sold and I got my shield back.
I carry it all day in an iwb kydex holster at roughly 4 o'clock in the Miami heat. I kind of miss the lcp for something to throw in a pocket and run out but I much prefer the 9mm. All imo of course. Get both...? |

Get both...? 8rds of 380 in your pocket is better then 8rds of 9mm that's at home because your not able to carry it. |

Get the regular if you are using it for carry IMO. The Performance Center version is nice at the range because it comes back on target faster, but when you really need it, if it is low light or dark, the discharge/flash coming out of the ports rather than the muzzle can blind you. |

| I made the switch from an lcp to shield this past Thursday. Couldnt be happier with my decision. I went for the no safety with night sights and 3 mags. Trigger on my shield is awesome solid wall no creep nice break. I've never carried a gun as comfortable as the shield. Running a advanced holster mini at 4 o'clock and can't tell it's there most of the time. |
| I think the Shield is carry perfection. Only time I don't have it is in Hot heat and the Holidays. Love the gun. However the other day I held an Honor Guard and I think anyone should check it out before making a final decision. I think of it as another performance center version of the shield. To the gun counter guy and my surprise the magazine in both firearms are the same except for the mag catch. The Honor Guard has theirs on the front of the mag. See is they are going to do anything with their modularity at Shot. It would be nice to change calibers is you felt the need to. |
