Any opinions on this revolver?

Would this be a good companion 22 for camping and hiking?

Thanks

In general Ruger guns are extemely reliable. The Bearcat is .22lr only. That is kinda small for shooting a rabid racoon. I would strongly recommend a Ruger Single-Six. It is an adjustable sight single action revolver. You can think of it as a larger bearcat(although technically it is not). The reason I recommend it is it comes with a .22lr and a .22WMR cylinder. You can practice with cheap .22lr ammo and pop in the .22 magnum cylinder when you want to take it hiking and camping

I own a 6in. barreled model  Single Six.  It is an excellent  pistol.

It is a fine gun, the Bearcat.  I have a blued and stainless version.  I also have two Single Sixes.  They would make great pack guns, for what a .22 can do.  If you brain a racoon, it will drop like a sack of rocks, I have seen it.  If you need personal protection, a .22 handgun barrel length will matter not, you need a bigger bore.  For plinking and the small size and light weight, you cannot go wrong.

I guess it all depends on where you camp and hike and what you expect your companion to do.  The Bearcat is a great little plinker but 22lr would not be my first or fifth choice for a camp companion.

A 22lr will only annoy an enraged Black Bear, Mountain Lion, Bobcat, Javalina, Wolf, Coyote or one of those enraged pesky two legged predators unless you are very accurate.

My camp companion is more along the lines of .357 magnum or .45acp.

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

I already have .22 LR and .22 WMR rifles.

So I figured a .22 Ruger revolver would be a great companion.
