Went to the range today and a friend brought his Tec 9 out. He had never shot it before so i gave it a shot.  Put the magazine in, pulled the charging handle, let go and it fired. No finger on the trigger. After that, I pulled the trigger and it burst fired.  What is going on with this pos?  Any info is appreciated, especially if you have experience with the pistol

Sounds like the firing pin may be stuck forward.

Did your friend clean/inspect the Tec 9 before firing ?

Maybe it's an MP-9 smg, or KG-9 open bolt semiautomatic ?

That is a common problem with the Tec 9 - design flaw and cheap materials.

Thanks for the replies.  He said he did clean it well and it looked to be in newish condition. I'll try to get more info on the specs

Make sure the firing pin isn't stuck or welded in place (seen it done before).  Check all of the fire control parts against a picture of what they should look like, it's possible someone did a home trigger job and messed up the sear, trigger, etc.

Be very careful , folks have been convicted for malfunctioning guns.

also a good lesson for why you always point your gun in a safe direction no matter what

Yep, this^^^^^^
Sounds like a Bubba Smith trigger job or select fire mod to me, would be a popular carry choice in the hood or trailerpark. Was the purchase made through an FFL who verified the background and functionality? Pretty sure an FFL can't legally sell an altered gun if that was the case...............

When you pull the bolt back does it stay back until the trigger is pulled?  Or does it go forward to the closed position?
