Got some new magazines (factory Beretta), sealed in original packaging, and something looked a little "off" about them: opened them up and looked like there was some shiny stuff (like plastic transferred from the blister packaging) - didn't want to seem to come off with light rubbing, so tried a cloth with (isopropyl) alcohol and cleaned right up, but the cloth is all rust colored. Price was right on the mags so will likely keep em, but curious if anyone else has run into this and if anything else should be done to keep them in good shape (I figured I'd wipe the outsides with alcohol, then maybe Militec or something) |

Had have several, unopened (white followers) put away since the early '90's with no problem. I did take a few out to look at and while opened I sprayed them down with a heavy industrial silicone, leaving a nice thick film that seems to last. Maybe you are seeing a preservative that congealed the metal to the plastic package? Try some bore cleaner to remove what sounds like some very minor surface rust...or just the discoloration of the preservative that yellows with age. After cleaning use a bright light to inspect them, also the insides. IMO, a little surface rust would be harmless. Another 2 cents... |
