| Im serisously considering a Sig 2022. They seem to good to be true. Any personal experience? For 500$ is there a better hammer fired 9mm? |

Well,
I have grown quite fond of them after an initial period of frustration with learning the longer trigger reset, getting used to placing my thumb underneath the slide stop each time, and having to make do with the fact that the first one I got (2-tone SP2022 with night sights) only came with one mag. I now own several of them (including an original SP2009) and all things considered they very well might be favorite pistol now. Mine have thus far been completely reliable. Speaking for myself, this is the ONLY handgun SIG makes these days that I am interested in or would trust my life to--it has a pretty good track record by now...the SIG 320 and 250 have not proven themselves yet IMO. In terms of the value/bang for the buck, I know the Sig Pro 2022s are DA/SA hammer fired guns and Glocks are not, but I tend to compare the two of them often because they come in at similar price points and both are generally regarded very well by those who have had experience with both. I prefer hammer fired guns generally over striker fired ones, so personally I would choose the SIG 2022 over a Glock. I am not anti-Glock per se, but one of the things that always irritated me about those guns is that in most places you are paying over $500 for a new Glock 17 or 19 that comes with plastic sights...give me a break. The Sig Pro 2022 comes in around $500 or less (depending on your locale/gun shop) with two mags, usually with SIG LITE night sights. Standard metal contrast sights should be a bit cheaper but either way you are getting metal sights out of the box. These are not perfect pistols (if there are such things), but I do think they are one of the better values out there today for 9mm handguns in general. |

I will say that I made fun of the SIGPRO when it first came out. Years later I finally got around to buying one and I had to eat my words. It's a great pistol. I am spoiled by the classic SIGs, with the ability to put any grip on and install SRT. But the SP2022 is a damned fine pistol. I managed to get mine (2-tone & night sights) for $350 a few years ago...it seems they've crept up in price since then. People must be buying more of them. Now $400 is a great deal, $450 I'd say would be standard. $500 better have some extras tossed in. I bought it as a relatively cheap car gun. I like it so much I shoot 3 gun with it now instead of my P229.
The only sonofagun thing about it to me is it ships with medium and small grips. Large are hard to find, and cost $35-45. |
| They are good guns, but the prices on these seem to be getting too high in my opinion. For $500.00, more firearm options are available and you can get a good used 226 or 229 for that price. I have seen a bunch of metal frame Sigs by me, that are in excellent condition for that price. The polymer Sigs were priced right at the $400.00 range(they were lower for a while), but for $500.00 I would not bother. I had a Sig 2009 and it was a decent gun but I could not shoot it well. The things I didn't like were the grips were too big for me and the decocker/trigger does not feel them same/as smooth as their metal framed counter parts. Also, mags are more costly. I briefly thought about them again not long ago while searching for another pistol, but the prices are getting out of hand, in my opinion. |

Around here, you've got police buyback P226s and P229s in .40 that are sitting on the shelves in droves at $400. the buyback 40s are tempting. unfortunately i already have a gun chambered in 40 and desire a 9 for the cheaper ammo and enlarged mag capacity. |
