I am getting married next week and the future boss lady said I can purchase another handgun before the wedding. I currently have a glock 19 and a glock 26. I thought I had it narrowed down but now that I've got the green light I'm having second thoughts. My choices:
Glock 34 gen 4: I already have glock 17 magazines and I'm familiar with the platform. However I've always had the urge to own something other than a Glock. CZ75 or P09: gun feels great in hand but never actually fired one. Would need to purchase a decent amount of magazines. 1911: who doesn't love a 1911. Only problem is it would have to be under $700 and I would not only need new mags but to start stocking a new caliber. I'm open to thoughts and suggestions. |

RIA's are far from a "quality" 1911. If you are serious about a 1911 buy a Springer Mil-Spec or Loaded. Both are in your price range, both feature forged frames and slides, both feature Springfield's unsurpassed Customer Service and you have a perfect gun to do your custom work that eventually will happen.
Springfield is building the best value in a 1911 right now. In the past few months I have bought 5 Mil-Specs as cores for customizing and each one was an excellent base pistol. One of the guns that a "retro" package is being built on had such good barrel fit we left the stock bushing and barrel in the gun. There was nothing to improve on by purchasing and installing aftermarket parts. Do yourself a favor. Instead of trying to figure out who to believe on this forum, where opinions vary greatly, call Rob Schauerland at Alchemy Custom and ask him what he is seeing. He has had 3 of my last Mil-Specs and was very impressed with all of them. As a former plant manager at Springfield and a number of years at Baer, his word is gospel. |

If your defensive needs are covered and this gun is just for fun and you don't already have one, the 1911 is the way to go IMO. There are a few guns that every red blooded American gun owner needs to have and a 1911 is one of those guns IMO.
Granted a budget of $700 is going to limit your options but a Springfield Armory "Loaded" model is a fine gun and just a hair over your budget... Springfield PX9109LP 1911 Loaded 7+1 45ACP 5". Buds does accept offers on that model so you may be able to get it a tad cheaper? If not, the SA "MilSpec" model is a good basic 1911 that will leave you some money left over for ammo... Springfield PB9108LP 1911 Mil-Spec 7+1 45ACP 5" |

Quoted: I'd say CZ-75 or P09. Getting a G34 when you already have a G17 probably won't scratch that itch. As for 1911s, I'd suggest looking into a 9mm 1911 like the Springfield Range Officer. At least you won't have to buy .45, and they are a LOT of fun to shoot. I agree with ken |

How would a Kimber Custom II compare to the Springfield. The local shop is having a sale on Kimbers? Some people love Kimbers, some hate them. Seems like most gunsmiths recommend Colts and Springfield's as the best guns to modify. At least some smiths refuse to work on Kimbers. Based on that, I'd pick a Springfield over a Kimber. |

Of those choices I'd go with the CZ75B. It's truly a classic and a joy to shoot. Mec-Gar mags are out there and they're not terribly expensive. You already have a Glock, so why not diversify a bit. This gets my vote. You still have different mags to buy, but they are fairly cheap if you look around, and you maintain a caliber you already shoot. If for some reason the CZ isnt your thing, look at a berettal 92FS. It has become my favorite handgun. |

This. I'm not a 1911 guy but I am a gun guy, therefore I need to have a 1911 (I have 3). Get one in 9mm so you don't have to stock another caliber. 9mm 1911's are frickin tack drivers (generally speaking of course). Quoted:

Everybody should own a 1911. I do want a 1911. However I don't want to settle for a 1911 and with my current time constraint (getting married on Friday) I think I will just knock a Glock 34 off my list of wants. |

I know I'm late to the party, but for all intensive purposes the glock 34 will do everything the 19 will do except conceal well, which sounds like you have covered with the 26... I vote sell the 19, buy the 34 and the CZ, save up until you are ready to buy a nice 1911 and start getting into .45s. Just a thought.
this is coming from a guy who carries a glock 19 because he doesn't like the way a 26 feels and will be buying a 34 or a cz at a gun show tomorrow. if selling and buying both is not an option (i would never part with my 19 even if i had a gun i preferred to carry and had a full frame) I would vote the 34 for the mag interchangeability also a great gun, you should have money left over in the budget to put a good ghost trigger kit in and get some better sights too. |
