For those who installed the S&W Shield Apex upgrades, how difficult was the installation? I swapped out Glock 19 OEM parts for the Vickers slide release, mag release, and (-) connector with smooth G7 trigger. Is it more difficult than working on a glock?

Yes, but not too bad if you have the right tool.
The hard part is removing the rear sight if you plan on installing their improved firing pin plunger. You really need a sight pusher for that. They are often a very tight fit, even with a sight pusher it can take a surprising amount of force. Installing the sear, spring, and trigger parts is easy. Reassembly is a bit tricky, but not bad if you watch the videos on it. Glock by comparison needs almost no tools at all to do anything |
| Installed my first one at my desk with a brass punch, mallet, block of wood and roll pin punch set. Was not hard at all, but I had installed 3-4 Apex DCAEK's before so I was not a stranger to the process. Second one I installed with an Armorer's block, sight pusher, etc., etc and it went a lot easier and a little faster. Both methods got the job done. Apex has good installation videos. Gather some tools, watch the video a couple time before and as you do the install. Just hit the space bar to pause the video as you go. You will be fine and have a better understanding of how your gun works when you are finished. Plus your trigger will be much improved! Good luck. |
| The rear sight's set screw has red loctite on it, and can be a PITA to get moving. It is such a small allen wrench that you can't get any real leverage on it. I used an adjustable temp soldering iron to heat up the set screw to loosen the loctite. With some heat it came loose relatively easily. The rear sight was really in there. I don't have a sight pusher so I put the slide in a vise and used a brass punch to remove and then reinstall the sight. |
