I took on a new project. I decided to work my ruger sp101 snub into a mirror polish. I have seen some good results of people doing this to their rugers. I started tonight using mothers mag polish and some old cut up pillow cases. I took the crane and cylinder out. I am starting on the frame. The barrel is probably 90 percent polished at this point.

1. Is it possible to polish stainless to a true mirror polish or will there always be small hairlines/grain showing through? What I have now is highly reflective but not a "flawless" mirror. I have never seen the finished product in person so I don't know what's reasonable to expect.

2. Does anyone have any tips for polished inside some of the tighter places? For example, I am having trouble polishing a thin line where the barrel meets the frame and around the cylinder release button.

Thanks for your help in advance. Really excited about giving some new life to this gun.

Various grits of automotive sandpaper to 2000 would be helpful. A buffing wheel with some micro-fine polishing compound would help as well. Mothers is not abrasive enough to get those small hairline/grain scrathes out. Polishing is simply making finer and finer scratches in the metals surface. You will never get a "flawless" look with Mothers alone.

You're lucky there's just one.  Try picking a forum for a 9mm SBR (e.g., AR Pistol Calibers, Pistol Caliber Carbines, Short Barrel Rifles, AR Variants).  Good luck with your project.
