Pluses?

Minuses?

My usual range setup is a leather remnant on the bench with my DIY pistol stand.
On the bench behind me is my la police medium range bag. This way I can access it during a cold range.

At the one pistol march I've been to I saw those pistol boxes, which seemed pretty cool.

Are you thinking of traditional bullseye pistol boxes with a pull out rack and bracket for a spotting scope? Great for bullseye but not much else. I have one I use for bullseye but for other types of shooting stick with a bag

yep.

I was also considering a tacklebox.

I find the compartments quite helpful.  Right now I use one of those tackle-only snap cases for little parts and throw that in the bag.

I'm always messing with the transport and set up part of things.

USPSA matches typically require you to holster and unholster at a dedicated "safe area" and not the trunk of your car... I use a soft sided pistol "rug" with handle and name tag, so if necessary my cleared pistol can be removed from a stage if I have progressed to another in a multi stage course for 3 gun

if you travel by air, a tip from Robby Leatham, was to use a metal Craftsman tool box with lock

I used an older, solid Craftsman box... I don't travel by air as I did when I was younger and more competitive so it has been repurposed as the house first aid kit... I shoot both USPSA pistol and 3 gun from a stroller... the bags are attached by snap links... older pic, but current is similar... the pistol rug with handle snaps on a link until I get to the safe area
