Hey there.
I'm looking for a decent inexpensive 9mm.  I've got a Taurus 911, but don't like the way it feels/shoots, and will probably trade toward another 9.
Can anyone help me out with ideas for another 9 (and reasons for the ideas plz)?

Edit:  I don't personally like Glocks, and don't want DAOs

Glock 19 or 17. All you will ever need. I got a very slightly used G17 for $395 today.

+1  Smartest pistol purchase I've made.  In fact, I traded my Glock 19 for it and never regretted it.

$350 to $650 used.

Prices vary wildly.

Get a MKIII. That's the black 'painted' one w/ the fixed sights.

They run great, and NOTHING handles better. Lots of room for customization....first step is to remove the magazine disconnect.

Also, check out any of the ruger p-series. I have a p-89 and I bet it runs and shoots just as well or better then any of the above mentioned. I paid $315 new

I know a guy who drives a chevy GEO to work every day.

It runs and drives every time....but he has better sense than to compare it to a jaguar.

Go to cdnninvestments.com and download their latest catalog.
they have several police trade ins to choose from, plus some brand new ones. All the prices are pretty low.

Glocks, Sigs, Rugers, HiPowers, etc etc.

FWIW, I'd look hard at a used Sig, they are cheaper than the HKs there, and their accuracy is for the most part outstanding. If they cost too much, look at the Ruger P series they have, those are pretty much indestructable and about $250 or so.

I owned a Colt, Browning (HiPower), Beretta (2), Glock and Sig (2) in 9mm.  Never quite been willing to shell out the bucks for an HK.

The prettiest gun I ever owned (still do) was a Beretta.
The ugliest gun I ever owned (still do) was a Glock.
The most accurate shooting gun I ever owned (still do) was a Sig (followed by the Glock).

The Glock is probably the least expensive (new) one you could get, but I would still recommend you try the Sig first. Very nice.

If a guy drives a Jaguar and doesnt know how to race it.....the geo will win every time. What makes your Jag better than my geo if I can drive it better than you.

Steyr M9 or Steyr S9!

tennifer slide and barrel like a glock (very durable) has an interal lock and a manual safty (out of the way if you do not want it). metal magazines.  Very reliable.  Can get standard night sights like a glock or keep the awesome trap sights.  under 300 dollars untill sold out by CDNN Investments and not many left!

Got a nice cult following and a newer model is coming out.Steyr Talk

I had the S9.  Compact version.  great solid feel to it.  great fit and finish.  Only reason I sold it was it was not on the approved list for the county I'm applying for.

I think it is 285 dollars! for a gun that retails by the book at 500!  that is a STEAL!

I have have owned ruger semi autos(geo), glock, cz, springfields, hi-power, various smiths, berettas, walther, Raven(trash), Lorcin(almost to embaressed to admit it) and steyr. It all depends on what your budget is. Most of the guns every body has metioned are good (save Raven and Lorcin). If you want to use it as a carry gun I do not recomend ruger (geo) unless you want to look like you have a tumer Ha Ha. Find what fits your hand the best. If you are in a $500 range I would go with a glock, Sprinfield XD, or a beretta couger. I carry a steyer m-40 and I like it better than my Glock but mags are getting harder to find. The Ruger I had did run like a top and went bang every time but it did not even come close to my CZ or my berettas. I will take a Jag any time over a geo. I would finish better no matter who was driving the geo than if I drove a geo. Just my two little cents.

Im not saying I would pick a Ruger over the others (Glock, Springfield, HP). I was saying for the price they are a good gun. Something to look at if he wanted to go cheap. I agree, I would pick a more compact gun to carry because a ruger is a little bulky and I believe there are better triggers out there. However, I shoot beter groups with my ruger than I do with any of my buddies glocks or XD's. Its my gun and I know how to shoot it.  Does this mean that the ruger is a better gun...no....for me ....yes. I tend to shoot better than most of the people in the lanes next to me at the range as well but that is because I practice more than most. As long as you have a gun that you shoot well no matter what it is, then it is a good gun (if its reliable). Dont be fooled into thinking a more expensive gun will make you a better shooter as it seems to be the trend. Practice with the gun you have. IMHO

Beretta 92FS hands down, but if your looking for some serious stopping power you should look into the DESERT EAGLE!!!!! hahahahaha

Check out the SIGPro 2009.  You can find them used for under $400 and they are excellent guns for the money.
Also, as has been said, you can get police trade-in SIG P226 9mms from CDNN for a very reasonable price.

Get a Hi-Point or Lorcin.....j/k.

I have one of the earlier Kahr K9.  It's compact, all metal construction, fits in the hand so good. Also just points well too.  Pretty good accuracy for a compact too.  Can qualify on the police range with it every time.  Of course, poly-frame guns have been "hot" for a while now.  Kahr does make poly-frame 9mm too.  I just prefer "old school" metal frames.

I echo both the SIG and Glock trade-ins, though definitely in favor of the SIG.  Depending upon where you're at in FL, these guys may be worth a look.  They are currently selling trade-in SIG P232s for $300.  Not a 9mm, but an idea of their pricing.

Good luck!

Thx for all the replies.  I'm leaning toward the Sig 226 right now

Hmm...Inexpensive and no DAO... The only two guns that really come to mind with that criteria are the CZ 75 or a CDNN Sig.

I have never owned or shot a CZ but I have read nothing but positive things about them. It is on my must buy list.

What can I say about a Sig other then they are very well built and reliable firearms. CDNN has some great deals right now on a number of different police trade in Sigs (226, 228, 229's).

Here's the problem. Nobody here can tell you what to buy. Every gun has it's pluses and minuses and every shooter is different. The only way to know how a particular gun will work for you is to get one and try it. If you have a range that rents guns, great. Otherwise you have no other choice then to buy one and try it.

That said, I would recommend one of the CDNN Sigs. Reason being is they are priced a lot cheaper then what a new or slightly used Sig would normally cost you. Most reports claim that these police trade-ins look barely used. It would be a great way to find out how well a Sig will work for you and if you find you don't like it, it's unlikely you would loose much money later if you decide to sell it.

Good luck

My CZ has been very dependable and shot at least 1000 rounds through and no jams and shoot's where I point it. the CZ has my vote.
