I have a Springfield Champion in .40sw cal. Sometimes when rapid firing the slide release will move to the up position and lock the slide back. Need suggestion on how to fix. TIA

Stop bumping it up with your thumb while shooting. The other option is it could be running a tiny bit too close to the bullet profile you are running, You are going to have to look at it and if it's touching a bullet you will need to file a tiny bit off of it to clear the bullet profile you have chosen.

I had a used Champion that did the same thing. 2 trips to the gunsmith & it still did it. I sold that POS, eventually. I own 3 SA 1911s & use one for CCL, so I have nothing against SA but I'll never own another Champion again.

Did you happen to notice if it was all the way up or just enough to catch the slide?
I have seen some that would just barely catch while firing and "fixed" it by lowering that flat surface where it engages the slide. (a little at a time)
By doing that, you may void the warranty, but it's just a slidestop.
If it's fairly new, I would call them for advice. Can't hurt.

Replace it w/ a wilson or brown stop, or look at the possibility of cutting the detent ridge a bit deeper, or replacing the spring in the plunger tube.

That's what works 98% of the time.  Had to do it on my Springfield with a Wilson Combat Bulletproof slide stop.  You just use a drill or a Dremel and make a tiny indent on the slide stop.  You'll see a shiny spot on the slide stop where the plunger hits it presently, that's where the tiny indent goes.  1% of the time you have to relieve a small amount of metal from the hole in the frame where the slide stop contacts the follower to allow the slide stop to go high enough to lock the slide back.  The last 1% is as Dave said make sure the bullets aren't hitting the slide stop 'inside' the frame.  If they are you'll need to remove some metal there.

I have seen many 1911's do this with Wolf ammo. The profile of the Wolf bullet is fatter back close to the case and it will hit the slide stop on some 1911's when other rounds do not.

Thanks for all the advice. I used a drill bit and made a small indention with it in the slide stop. No more problem.

Great suggestions.
