Wife bought me a random magnet mount that screws into surface.  You then stick your hand gun to it for quick hidden access.  Obviously there is the unholstered trigger issue.  That aside...what happens when parts of a hand gun become magnetized?

Fucking magnets, how do they work?

Magnetizing gun parts shouldn't have any negative effect that I can think of.  I would be much more worried about the security of the setup, and accessibility.
It's not for your car is it?  Honestly, until you brought it up I had never considered a magnetic mount.  How hard is it to retrieve the weapon, does it slide around?

No she bought it for me to mount on the wall beside my recliner so that it is accessible and not taking up space on the end table when I sit here.  Supposedly you just yank the think off the magnet, I have not tried it yet.

One of the new movies coming out has a magnet screwed into a table bottom and then attaches a Glock to it. In the trailer the guy goes for the gun under the table. Can't remember movie title but its on daily.

I recently attended a class to get my Magnetic Particle cert, and they spend a lot of time stressing that you do NOT want to leave a machine part magnetized.  There was a lot of discussion on how to demagnetize a part after testing.  The last thing you want in a machine with tight tolerances is to have it attracting magnetic dust particles.

I would think a handgun is no different.

I've had my magnetic particle certification for 15 years and I really don't see any problems using the magnetic mount, sticking your gun to a magnet mount is way different than the reasons for demagnetizing production parts during the manufacturing phase.  In certain situations I imagine it would really handy.  Now that I've been thinking about it I may get some of those mounts to use around the house instead of putting them in drawers and such.

Those magnets should be strong enough to still hold a gun if you put it in a thin nylon material holster like those that are in a lot of gun safes, that would eliminate the trigger issue.

The new Jack Ryan movie had that.

I was curious as well, if there were averse effects, over time, mounting a gun like that.  Good to know.
