I just acquired a long barreled, early 41. Serial # is 980xx and to the right of the number is 'U.S.' It has the cocking indicator. Doe the 'U.S.' indicate any military use? Anything I need to know while looking for an extra mag? Thanks.

I'm not sure about the "US" part being mil-surp or otherwise.
Nothing to really know about the mags, I'd stick to S&W factory though, IMO.
