Alright guys,
I am thinking about building a 1911, and figured I'd ask the hive mind where I can get a decent 1911 frame for under $130.  (I looked at Caspian, and while nice, they would blow my budget.)  I am looking at building it up over several months, as time and $$$ allow.

And how hard is it to build a 1911?
I have built a couple of AR's, and figure a .45 wouldn't be too much more difficult.
Or are those famous last words?

sarco sells quite a few stripped frames, their Essex frames are supposed to be "drop-in" for USGI 1911 parts. They are around that price range.

Can you get dealer pricing at Brownells? I'd check there.

I don't think I can get dealer pricing, as I am not a FFL license holder of any type.
Looks like it will be cheaper to get one from Sarco.  Whats their shipping usually run?
Any recomendations on what parts to use?  (IE match trigger, custom hammer, etc.)

Perfect argument to spend the $30 on a C&R License then. You'll more than makeup for it on dealer price purchases from Brownells, Midway, Etc., even if you never intend to get a C&R Firearm.

AGI has a video that is very informative. I have it and there is a lot of useful information in it. Gene Shuey has done work for me also. He is a great guy and very knowledgable. My 1911 he rebarreled works great.

ultimate 1911

You're on your own for a frame though.

I bought a slide from  Essex Arms
If the frame is anything like the slide I would suggest them for your frame.

Check out some of the following links for 1911 building. Between the links and a parts diagram of the 1911 I was able to build my first 1911 from scratch, and I had never seen the inside of one.....and it worked href=Roderus Custom
