How does the .22 Magnum compare to the .22 LR in terms of accuracy? I might get a Taurus 941 .22 Magnum revolver as my first pistol. Before you guys jump on me about not getting a .22, it won't be used for defense.. just to learn proper shooting, do alot of target practice, and put alot of ammo through cheaply. Also, has anyone shot the Taurus 941? How did you like it? Thanks |

I have a strange fascination with the .22 WMR, though I don't own one myself. It has a reputation for less than desirable accuracy, certainly not as accurate as the .22 lr, but not much is. However, there is a lot of conjecture that this is due to the lack of a lot of really well made guns for this cartridge. It also is supposed to have devastating ballistics for small game hunting, resulting in too much meat damage for it to have ever become popular. It's hunting application has been relagated to making head shots on game animals and varminting. The other strike against it is the cost of ammo. Which is nearly that of 9mm luger. Unfortunately, it's not that cheap to shoot. It is far more popular in countries that restrict firearms ownership to rimfires. That said, I'd love a .22 WMR conversion for an AR it would help solve some of the accuracy issues. And if I had money to spend on more guns right now I'd probably buy a .22 WMR. If it was my first gun, I'd buy a .22lr instead. I have a S&W 617 that is a LOT of fun. If you can spring for a 617 or a K-22 masterpiece, I don't think you'll regret it. |

I'd second the comment above about cost of ammo - .22LR is generally much cheaper. I got a Taurus 94 snub nose for my wife to practice with. I think it's a pretty good gun for the money. If you consider single action revolvers you could get one that has both .22LR and .22MAG cylinders. |
