FN had decided to voluntarily stop importing 5.7x28 SS192 ammunion for civillian sale even though the BATF ruled that it was completely legal. I say we kill whatever little portion of the civillian market they have. |
|
As for boycotting FN – you have got to be kidding. They are willing to provide some of their goodies to us, the lowly consumer, unlike the fucktards at HK. Once upon a time, I worshiped the ground that HK walked on, that was until I found out that they view consumers as shit under their fingernails. Come on, a civilian P90 and F2000, that is something special that has made me a HUGE FN fan. I not only like their products, I respect them for bringing innovation to us, the consumer. . Hell, I just got a FiveSeveN myself, and its one innovative gun. |
Yeah, dude, boycott yourself. What other company is coming out with a semi subgun carbine (P90) and a new bullpup rifle (F2000) for civilians? Colt? HK? No. FNH. FNH is the only company right now who even gives the smallest damn about us. The fact that they're trying not to piss off every cop and politician in the US is OK by me. |
| For all you guys who just purchased the FN 5-7, I'm sure you will not have any regrets. I love shooting mine. I fire so fast and consistant ,It still blows my mind when I empty 20 in seconds and maintain accuracy. It takes a little training and I mean little, just to get used the grip, little recoil it does have. But after that all is gold........ |
| I really want one of these pistols but no I am not so sure. I wanted one due to the high velocity of the round. Why are they down loading it into a weaker loading? that kinda defeats the purpose of the design. I kinda don't want to spend 1k on something my 9mm can do just as well if the only round available only does 1300fps. I still might buy it it could be a long wait though. |
Well, you see, if it did what it was designed for, you'd have cops and liberal weenies pissing in their pants. Which is why it don't do that no more. |
| Regardless of the fact that the slower velocity is going to neuter the effectiveness of the gun, Im still planning on having a blast with it at the range which is what I use it for. Hopefully a prominent bullet designer will see the potential of the P90 when it comes out and start casting us some lighter bullets that we can send down range at the proper speeds. 40gr. is just a tad too heavy. |
Technically, there's nothing stopping FN from selling it other than the negative press. That being said, I don't see a major manufacturer (Winchester/Olin, etc) making them for us (considering Winchester/Olin made SS192), for the same reasons FN stopped selling it. |
I would rather you not use cops and liberal weenies in the same sentence. I speak for noboby but myself because I know there is concern out there in the LE community, but this round causes me no realistic discontent. I don't see the mopes that I contend with forking out the dough for one of these pistols. I realize they could steal them, but that is a narrow concern at best. They wouldn't know what to feed them if they did. And even if they did, most heads can't shoot for shit.........I can. For those of you fortunate enough to aquire one of these fine arms......enjoy.......I am envious. |
Perfect combo, got to keep FN Herstal alive. Everytime I see a 5-7 posted alone or with a mate, like yours got to be the sweetest thing. Nice AR also nice 5-7. My AR supports an EOTech 552. For now this is Husband and Wife setup.
|
Good question. I will look into it, but I don't see why not unless there is legality involved. BUT< I hope the American Ammo maker start to make a variety of the stuff. I mean a variety. |
You notwithstanding, it was the Cops and Liberal Weenies who brought the five-seven into the public light as a danger to police forces everywhere, so... I just calls 'em like I sees em. |
|
|
how about no? fnh might be kinda slow on its feet when it comes to civilian sales, and they might have been ''forced'' to discontinue the ss192 round, but at least they are trying to make it in the civilian market just wish they hurry up and drop the prices a little
|
| I called FN/US Law Enforcement and the person I talked to said FN had exclusive rights and was not giving out "that" information. The case shoulder blows forward .038" and resizing it back to factory specs would seem to put a lot of stress in the shoulder area. If I can figure a power charge I could fire the same case till stress appears or separation but I sure would not want to risk any damage to the gun. It's really a shame we have to go through these problems just to be able to reload for this cartridge. I really like the gun but I think we'll soon see regulations due to all the controversary around it. |
Where do those figures come from? If they are accurate, the wounding ability of the SS196 would be awful. Sure, its a bit heavier than the SS192, (which is said to be either 28 or 35 gr.) but it loses 800 fps and the whole purpose of the weapon. |
How poetic of you. |
|
FN never wanted the 5-7 to reach civillian hands. It was their distributors who allowed it. I wanted a 5-7 so i could effectively kill people wearing body armor with a concealable handgun. Now that it can't do that, it's worthless. 40gr round at 1300fps? No way am i paying that kind of money for the terminal ballistics of a 22lr. Being that the round they are using in the SS196 is designed for a much more powerful cartridg, will the bullet even expand? |
I agree 100%. That company has balls. I will hopefully be able to get a 5.7 sometime soon. When I do, I'll be glad to support FNH. |
You would cut off your nose to spite your face. Do you realize what they did? They kept the anti-gunners from expanding the definition of armor piercing rounds to include pistol rounds of normal construction. Just as Winchester stopped legislation in its tracks by pulling the Black Talon. |

I'll admit it's a sad state of affairs when a little pissing and moaning from journalists (quite possibly the lowest form of life) can cause something like this. But, I really don't have anything against FN. I do respect them for creating a civielegal P90 and F2000. I do wish they'd start producing civie legal AR15's. But they seem to squash even the sale of upper reciever parts. I really haven't had any troubles with HK's customer service. But I only talked to them once and it was about putting a match trigger in my gun. When HK finishes there US plant, it would be sick of them not to start producing Civilian legal MP5 clones and HK91 style rifles. They'd sell a lot more of them than they ever would the SL series rifles. And finally get around that import ban. At the moment, I'm going to wait and see with HK before I jump all over them. They've gotten burned in the past developing civilian small arms and all of a sudden having them banned by executive orders. |

Just went to my local shop to buy some SS192 that I was paying $18.50 per box. Guess what? No more SS192. They told me their importer has already exhausted their supply and they are waiting for the SS196 to come in. I am goin to the gun show this weekend and will buy any and all SS192 that I find. I am going the keep the 192 for CCW and use the SS196 for target practice. I have dies made by RCBS but I am still trying to find loading data. I am sure someone will come up with reliable data soon.
