I just saw a glock 26 on the EE that was magna-ported. What are the benefits of this. I am about to get a G 27, and was wondering if it would be worth it to have it magna-ported. It looked awesome, but does it really help out with recoil/ muzzle rise/ follow-up shots? Would the slide and barrel have to be refinished? The 26 I saw had the slide refinished in a silver color. I would want the stock blk tennifer slide and a silver barrel. Thanks for any imput! |

Magna-Porting does indeed cut down on muzzle flip. The hotter the bullet, the better it works. I had a S&W 681 in .357mag ported. Noticeable difference, IMO. I'd hesitate to say on such a small barrel as a 27 has if porting would do anything at all? I'd guess not much, if anything at all. Do a plain bbl in a 27 & then port the 22/23 if you wanted. If you have to bore thru the slide and barrel it isn't that bad. I Magna-Ported a blued S&W Model 41, it looks just normal no big deal. |
| If the Glock will be used for self-defense purposes such as daily carry, I would recommend that you refrain from purchasing the ported model, or simply buying a new unported barrel for defensive carry. As mentioned above, it does reduce recoil, but at the cost of venting hot gases and unburned powder upwards, which creates a muzzle signature which may temporarily blind the shooter at night, obscure the front sight, or even burn the shooter when the pistol's muzzle is in close proximity to the body. There have also been several cases in which jacketing from rounds have contacted the ports and peeled away, which can injure the shooter when shooting from retention. I believe it was Col. Jeff Cooper who wrote something to the effect of: "The only holes in a barrel should be those at each end". |
| I've personally Magna-Ported 3 guns, I don't find them spewing more muzzle flash etc. But they do reduce the muzzle flip which enables you tb bring the gun back on taget much faster. I've ported a Colt 6" Python, and shooting 357 Rem Mag there is a noticeable reduction in muzzle flip. |
Bullet speed, sir. The faster the bullet, the better the porting works. Big old lumbering .45acp can't get out of its own way compared to the .357s & such. My .o2 |
