ok, first and foremost, is this a women only option? Reduced recoil for faster realignment... second, anyone using ported barrels suffer from night flash blindness? I'm buying an 4" XD .40 and looked at the ported barrels. Just wondering. Thanks- |

If this gun is for self defense, I would recommend against a ported barrel, IMHO. If shooting from the hip (point shooting) the porting would direct hot gasses up across your face. There could be a similar concern for shooting during a struggle. Not sure about flash blindness at night. I do think porting is effective for competition action shooting, just not a good idea for self defense use. |

One of my CCW during colder weather is my .40 Glock 24C carried in a shoulder holster. The 24C has a 6" ported barrel. One of the most accurate, rapid firing pistols I own. Never had to fire it at night, so I can't speak for how excessive the flash is nor how it might adversely affect your eyes. |
| I'd vote against the porting in case you had to fire form an unorthadox position. If you fired from the hip you would have to contend with the hot gasses shooting up from the holes in the barrel. Tactically, porting does not make a whole ton of sense............... |

This is for my "primary" handgun so going by the opinions on here porting wouldn't be my best option for carrying. And as far as "womens" option Glock advertises their ported barrels for females and smaller shooters. I had heard that it was viewed as a "womans option".. |
