I am confused and need some help...is this available for civilian purchase or not? I have heard two many conflicting answers on this one....Please set me straight! |

Download the CDNN catolog. The last page has it. I think they have the best price. www.cdnninvestments.com/dowournewcat.html |

They are legal to own but it also depends on the state you live in. The PRK has a very restrictive list of what they will allow and I am sure there are other states like them. I got the new version FN Five-seveN that has the squared off trigger guard and came with three 20 round mags. There is a lot of talk about the 5.7 x 28 round going through body armor and in fact as I was purchasing my new pistol a female cop that was at the shop wanted to know why I would ever want such a gun. My response was, "because I can". I asked her if she remembered all of the hype about Glocks when they first came out being able to pass through metal detectors and how tons of criminals would be taking them on planes. It's the same thing, just something new for the anti's and liberal media to harp on. If you get a chance buy one, you will love it. I used to carry a 3" Kimber Ultra Carry 45 for my CCW gun and I have now switched to the 57. It only weighs 26 oz. fully loaded with 20 rounds and has the exact same foot print as a standard 5" 1911. With my Blade-Tech holster it is a very concealable package that is comfortable for all day carry. Just my .02 MadDog

actually, it's not hype, the 5.7x28 hollowpoints will go through soft body armor. It's for that reason a lot of cops won't carry the gun. It's not a good idea to carry a gun that can defeat your own armor. Congrats for not being a smartass and saying "cause i'm a cop killa, yo!" and flashing a gang symbol. |
|
Roentgen - You got an excellent price on your FiveseveN. Where did you find 5.7x28 ammo for $15.50 per box??? My local shop has it for $18.00 and I have not been able to find it on the internet any cheaper. I am saving the brass because Lee now makes a die set for the 5.7 However I have not found any loading data yet. MadDog
|
| I am not an anti, but I have to agree with her....why? "Because I can" is the type of answer your mother gave you when you were little and you didn't like it then! I don't blame officers for being in fear of these guns being on the street! They put their lives on the line to protect us everyday and you have people out there that would live to get their hands on your legal gun to kill one of them. |
why would someome spend a grand to kill me when they could spend $200 on a wal-mart rifle? J |
in in in keep them s a in.
|
LIVES ON THE LINE TO WRITE A BUNCH OF SPEEDING TICKETS? Their lives are no more on the line than a postal worker! It is a rare thing that a cop actually prevents a crime or protects someone other than themselves. People are protected by the fear in criminals from the thought that they could get hurt while commiting the crime. Hence the high crime rates in areas with the most prohibitive gun laws.Lets talk about the most dangerous job in the world, commercial fisherman. They put their lives on the line just to provide food. Lets hold them in the highest reguard while we're at it! |
Well shit, I hope nobody ever figures out to aim for the head... There are PLENTY of rounds out there that can defeat body armor that are a HELL of alot less expensive than getting a 5-7 and its ammunition, sorry...that's just the way it is. If you don't like it, move to australia, japan, or GB, and leave your freedoms here. Its quite obvious that you don't deserve them. Stop trolling, its very annoying. FYI, this is coming from a CJS major who has EVERY intention of becoming a police officer. |

I have overwhelming evidence that the five seven is not yet in the hands of criminals. Listen to rap music. Go to google and type in the words "lyrics" and "Glock" and you'll get 4 billion rap songs where the word "Glock" is mentioned. Wu Tang Clan - "The Glock" Terror Squad - "Pass The Glock" Cypress Hill - "Hand on The Glock" Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - "Shotz To Tha Double Glock" And that's just a small sampling with "Glock" in the title. It's also mentioned in songs along with cartridge designations. In the Three 6 Mafia song "Blow A Nigga's Ass Off" they sing: I got that gauge 38 and that four five glock Deep in the bushes see I'm scooping with that red dart You try to run I'm a get my glock and blast you This is a blow a nigga ass off part two In the Disturbing Tha Peace song "Smokin' Dro" rap artist "Tity Boi" sings "And I'm ridin in C.P. with a glock-40 as my tooley." Later in the song rapper "Ludacris" sings "Really really wanna fuck with the glock glock? NOOOO!!" Now try it with "FN" or "fiveseven". No relevent hits. No one sings about bustin' a cap in a pigs ass with their five-seven. It's simply not as cool a fuckin' up a nigga wif yo glock. |
| I guess some of you are missing my point....I have shot one of these and it is a bad ass gun....has recoil like shooting a .22 pistol, but I don't understand why someone would spend $1K on another hand gun that I don't see as practical! That's just my OPINION. |
|
Allison - Just curious, why do you consider any caliber Glock more practical then the FiveseveN? Or is a USP more practical, or a 50AE Desert Eagle more practical, or a S&W 500 more practical, or any other gun for that matter. In fact with your criteria, if you don't strictly hunt for your food, are not in the military or law enforcement then no handgun is really parctical and is therefore a waste of money. How do YOU determine what is practical and what is not??? By the way, I only paid $800 and change (not $1,000) for mine with three 20 round EVIL magazines. MadDog
|
That was not the point you were trying to make in your original post. Also no one has to justify to you what they spend their money on, whether you think it is practical or not. |
Same thing I say to Anti-gun Liberals: Honda Civic.....Practical......not fun Corvette...NOT Practical.....FUN Winchester 30-30....Practical........not so fun HK51..........Not Practical..........whole lot of fun |
Simple answer, how many Wal-mart stores do you see carrying ammo for the 5.7? As I said AGAIN, that is just my OPINION, not saying you cannot do what you want or you have to justify a damn thing to me! |
Then you should be scared of ANY gun being on the street. They can just shoot you in the face as easily as they can your chest. [anti]BAN EVERYTHING![/anti] |
And give it time before walmart gets 5.7 ammo in. You do realize the round is new, and as far as I know only FN is making it right now. Also : Shut up. You're clearly going to lose this arguement. Edit because I didn't realize I screwed up and double posted. |
|
Winchester may also be making 5.7x28 ammo: www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/product.asp?sku=AMM-250 As for AP, I wouldn't rely on the SS192 HP's available to civilians. Recently there was a thread showing some potential effectiveness against soft body armor, but there was also another one where the 7.62x25 Tokarev was superior in penetration (and no one's trying to ban that one, to my knowledge). One interesting question is whether it's legal for civilians to load their own SS190 AP 5.7x28 rounds. I'd guess not. Still, dies appear to be available now, but I've had a tough time finding fresh brass and bullets (HP), not to mention load data (which may come with the die). Does anyone have more info on this? |
|
GunBan - The only company I have seen that makes dies is Lee and they want too much for a set ($158). I have not found a source for brass other then the new stuff I shoot and collect. My local range sells once used brass that they sweep up for .04 a piece. I am going to buy up all they have. Still haven't found loading data but I am sure it will be available soon. Someone in this thread said they purchased new SS192 for $15.50 per box. I am currently paying $18.95 per box. I wish they would come back on and say where they are buying it for that price. I will use my reloads at the range and the SS192 HP that I buy for CCW. MadDog

Hey guys, Not to Hijack, but I also have the USG and love it, it is a true dream to carry (cpacity and lack of weight). To the reloaders: One thing on ammo, not that I have figured out any reason for it, but.... The FN subsonic ammo carries a 55gr FMJ bullet. Could it/and what use would we have for it, but load it as a normal round and that would be one wicked round (not that the ss192 isn't already) Just a free thinking american with to much time on his hands (and I just picked up some of the subsonic. UK |
Ah, so you were the guy at Charlie Elliot on Wed. I was there with my buddy from the Naval Academy. |
There are 2 types of 5.7x28: 'Practice' ammo (the JHP rounds), and the original AP ammo (which you can't buy as a civillian, being an AP pistol round).... The gun WAS originally designed to defeat body armor, but presumably to reduce cost for training, FN produced a JHP cartridge that is 'civillian friendly'.... |
just because you're not doing anything wrong, doesn't mean your local leo isn't going to look down on you for carrying a weapon specifically designed to defeat body armor. i had a jbt damned near toss my corpse in the intercostal waterway because i had the gall to carry 2 spare mags for my glock when i went jogging. i'm not saying you WILL be discriminated against for it, but that you MIGHT. |
|
druncuncas - How did a LEO know you were carrying even one spare mag let alone two mags for your Glock??? I thought the whole purpose of CCW was in the first letter (concealed). I have been carrying concealed 24/7 for almost 15 years now and have never been hastled by any LEO. In fact I have been stopped a few times for minor traffic stops and every time I have informed the LEO that I have a CCW. They just asked if I had my weapon on me and when I replied YES, they didn't even want to see it. Not saying it would never happen but I highly doubt I am going to get a hastle for carrying a big bad Five-seveN. MadDog |
|
No disrespect to Leo's in here, but I doubt 90% of the LEO's would even know what the 5-7 was, let alone have an issue with it. I know alot of LEO's, and other than the department issued weapon, it is just a tool for the job, and there is not alot of knowledge beyond that. UK |
| Thanks Mad Dog for the pic's. I am going to a gunshow next weekend and I am really hoping to get my hands on one. How is the trigger on yours. I know the tatical model has a lighter pull and I have heard that it is very smooth. I am glad to see that this thread has some legs and it is getting some feedback. |

Kahrkid - The trigger pull on mine is excellent but different than any other pistol I have. The USG Tactical models are single action only, where as the first generation was double action only. The USG has an internal hammer that is always cocked when a round is chambered. Even though it is a single action it has a long trigger pull much like a double action revolver yet it is very smooth with a let off of about 4 pounds. It has the feel of a two stage trigger, so for target practice you can easilly stack the trigger with a short pull for let off. I have found it most accurate for combat shooting to treat the trigger like a revolver with a long, quick, smooth trigger pull. The feel kind of reminds me of Para Ord's LDA trigger. All in all it is very smooth and I carry it for CCW with confidence. MadDog |
Hey, MadDog, I think this is funny..http://{img}http://www.hunt101.com/img/236175.jpg.{img} When I saw your picture, I was like WTF...lol.. I have to get my Bushy pistol and the FN IOM and duplicated the picture. |
Try again. http://[http://www.hunt101.com/img/236175.jpg.] For some reason I can't upload the picture...hinking.gif |
