I have been researching for weeks and have held several models and can still not decide on a pistol for cc.  I have a glock 23 that i plan on carrying at 4o'clock, but want to find something else smaller in .380 or 9mm for either pocket or IWB carry.  I held a shield and really like it, but I don't know if i can justify having something that is only a little smaller than my glock and I will cary the same way.  I looked at the lcp and it doesn't fit too well in my big hands, although it does fit the ticket for what I'm looking for.  Out of all the pistols I've looked at, the lc9 seems to be my favorite...thoughts recommendations? (I'm not looking for a subcompact glock, and I want to check out KelTec) I want facts and actual experiences, not just opinions.

I have an LC9 I bought for carry on consignment right now becuase I hate it so much. Oh it's reliable and easy enough to carry, but the trigger is just as bad as the one was on my P11.
I hate that trigger.  I made up my mind to ditch it on the last range trip. I could not recommend it. LIfe is too short for sucky triggers imo.

Of those, I'd do the shield in 9mm or .40 S&W.  Not a big fan of  .380 ACP for personal defense.

Boy, I am just the opposite.
I have an LC9 and love it.

If I was looking for a smooth trigger on a gun to carry I would use my Python.
But, the thing for me is it's ease to carry over rules any trigger issues.
You pull it and it goes Bang.

If you needed to use the LC9 in a bad deal I do not think anyone would even notice anything about the trigger.
But you would be glad you had it at the time.
It is not a target gun. Very light. Slim.
It is my summer carry.  I leave my H&K's home or in my truck in the summer.
But we all have different like and dislikes I guess.

I find it difficult to shoot accurately with the LC9, even after many rounds of practice with it. Don't even get me started on the magazine disconnect.
There are guns just as small with better triggers. I am going with a Kahr CM40, should be here this week.
Slightly smaller than the LC9, and the trigger is really smooth, not stagey. Also my summer carry.  Colt Defender is the rest of the time.

It's great you like the LC9, I really dislike it.

You may wish to consider the Walther PPS and Springfield XDS as well.

We are now entering a golden age of powerful pocket pistols, with more options than ever before.

for ruger I'd go with the sr9c over the lc I juyst got my sr40c and love it.

I suppose they are about a 1/4" thicker than the lc but double stack mag

what about the p238?  I don't hear anything about that...my sister has my mom's old Mustang which i really like and they seem to be pretty similar.

For pocket carry it's tough to beat the PF9, most others are not nearly as flat or light weight.

Poll fail. No Hammerless J-frame option.

A pocket pistol should be able to fire more than one shot from within a pocket IMO. An auto will not do that. And .38+p > .380. Reliability is far better with a revolver too. If one can hide an LCP, they can hide a J-frame just as easily. I know this because I own both, but rarely ever carry the LCP except as BUG to the J-frame.

G26 is money for a CCW

However, out of your choices it would be the Shield hands down

I have yet to see a Kahr that functions 100% out of the box, and anything less than 9mm is insufficient for a defensive round IMHO

How easy is it to pocket the G26? That's part of my criteria...reason being I want something I can cary almost all the time, not something I will only have every now and then. If a .380 is what I will carry, then the insufficient round will be much more sifficient than not having one at all.

It isn't

Pocket carry is not a desirable method of carrying a CCW, you try drawing from a pocket when someone has you on the ground...

I am 6'1" @ 180lbs and I carry 100% of the time I leave the house, with the G26 being my minimum carry weapon

If you get a good holster, then a medium size auto is easy to conceal IWB, I use a MTAC "slide" at 5:00 with zero printing even with a T-shirt.  And when I have a cover garment such as a jacket or button-up shirt I carry a G19 in the same holster.

Please provide details of what level of concealment you desire (i.e. at work with immediate termination policy, or just social carry) and what your wardrobe consist of.

You may find that you can carry a lot "more gun" than you think

Here is my rig with my Glock 19 just to show how easy it conceals, with a medium white t-shirt to boot...

Now imagine how easy the G26 is to hide

Well as I said I already have a G23 for IWB. I live in FL so I need something I can wear with shorts and a tshirt. I know pocket carry isn't ideal but I want to have the option...

Thanks for all the replies. Good info, keep it comin'

I'm not looking to harp on you or give you a hard time, but what are you using for a belt and holster?

Have you reviewd all holster options?  That means ignoring the standard gun store junk.   You'd be surprised where you can tuck a G22

Don't have my CCP yet, but I will be using a crossbreed.

As I said I want something a little more compact than the 23 for warm weather carry. I'm 6'2" and pretty active, I don't want my shirt to ride up and expose my lower back and consequently my CCW. Again, that's why Id like to have the option of pocket or IWB with a smaller weapon...

S&W 642 or even a 351PD

Autos that fit your poket are always Finicky, no matter the cost.

What about an LCR?

I had the LCR 357 and it was a neat little pistol

The lockup was not near as tight as my S&W 637, but that really is a non-issue as long as it goes bang in correct time

Walther PPS ......it's thin as sin and shoots real well.

But because you have a glock I'd have to say the glock subcompact.   That way you can use any mags you already have.
