check this...my friend told me to look up the james bond gun and i checked it out.  its a walther p99, i was surprised of how nice it looks.

i also found out that there is a walther p22.  i think that would be the perfect first gun for my g/f since it is a .22.  she likes the way it looks and will be able to fire it since it is a .22.

i also found it on gunbroker.com with a carbon fiber finish.  IMO that is a tight looking gun.  id love to have it myself but we'll see.

anyone with any experience with this gun or is it pretty new?

They've been out for quite a while.  IIRC, the "99" in P99 stands for 1999, the year they hit the market.

I have them both.  The P99 trigger can take some getting used to, but it's a great gun.  Fits the hand very well.  The P22 is a fun gun, but they don't seem reliable enough to trust to defense, besides any caliber reservations.  I put the P99 quality as a step above the P22 in workmanship, material, everything.  The P99 is a true service pistol, the P22 is more of a plinker.  Either one though is a lot of fun.

If you are in the Tidewater you can shoot them and deicde for yourself.

I own a P99 with the Quick Action trigger and I think it is a nice little pistol.  I am not nearly as accurate with it as I am with my USP 9MM, but it handles nicely, and the adjustable grip is nice as it will accomodate different hand sizes pretty well.  Regarding the P22, I would do a search on these boards for more info.  People seem to either love, or hate, them.  Hope that helps.

If you are interested in the P99 you might also want to look at the S&W SW99, it's S&W's version of the P99, and it is also available in .45 ACP (the p99 is only 9mm and .40).  I ended up with a SW99 after shooting a P99, I went looking for one and a shop had the SW99 in 9mm for $450.  For me they shoot the same, meaning I shoot the SW99 just as well as I shot the P99.

i think for now i will just stay with my USP .45C.  there is no reason for me to get another new gun right now since i just got my first one.  but i think im definetly gonna get the p22 for my g/f.  if i like the way it shoots that much ill look into the sw99.  thanks for the info though.

P-22s have been getting trashed by the public as being poor quality. If you want a quality .22, try a Buckmark or (cough) Ruger. S&W makes one also but I've never shot one.

The Beretta Neos is cool for the ladies, IMO. I don't own one, but shot one at the range and it was neat. A bit too "swoopy" for my tastes, but good sights, a natural pointer and no FTF's for any of the half-dozen of us who got to shoot it. A couple of us contributed ammo (me some ancient T-22's, another guy some Stingers; don't know what the proud owner was feeding it).
