I have a CD 1911 ECS and it's having some extraction issues...... I'm shooting UMC 233 grain HP, and Wolf 233 grain FMJ, and after x shots it fails to extract after a few rounds...I've throated, and radiused the barrel so it will feed better(CD's are notorious for FTF)and it feeds much better. Each new round fits the barrel perfectly, but after firing the shell is expanding, and binding it the pipe. Is the expansion normal? I've tried bending the extractor to get a better bite, but haven't had a chance to test...any insight would be great. Thanks |

Probably an improperly tensioned extractor. Take the slide off and slip a loaded round up under the extractor. If the extractor can't hold a loaded round in place, it's definitely not tensioned enough. This isn't the perfect test but it should give you some idea, under the circumstances. |

I heard the same, but I picked it up for $200 so I thought I'd give it a try the ftf and extraction were the only issues I head about. I'll play with it a bit, but in the end I think an HK .45 is in my future...... Rob |
I shoot Wolf all the time in my SA 1911A1 without any troubles, it is kinda dirty but I've never had to clean it while at the range. I was having some jamming problems, but it was due to a relaxed spring in one of my GI mags. Changed the spring and I was in business again. |

Go here: www.m1911.org/full_technic.htm And then click on this: Extractor Tuning and Installation Tips (by Bill Wilson) Try that out and see if you can't get your pistol to run better. |

I can't complain about the CD's, especially at the price you paid for it. They are miles beyond, say, a Llama. Mostly they can be fixed up with a little parts swapping. If all else fails, you can just buy a decent extractor and tension it properly. I've had a few junky extractors that I never could get working 100% even after tweaking them. |
I would politely disagree with that one. I've seen NIB Daly's have parts fly off at the range. Llama's are certainly no bargin but they aren't a total POS. |
I wouldn't pay full price for a CD, but I think they can be built into a halfway decent shooter if you are willing to do some part swapping. With a Llama you are limited to what the gun came with, or parts you fabricate yourself. |

I bought it cheap with the hopes of making it a better handgun...So far I've swapped in a CM trigger, mainspring, titanium firing pin, sear, and 1 piece guide rod...the ftf issue has ben resolved withe the throat, and radius job I did on it. I'm sure I can get it to extract, I just need more time to fiddle! (Kids high maint wife..masters program...etc) Thanks |
